I respect Damacus' opinion but Sutter absolutely has the say over the roster.

I don't know why a GM would even allow that.

Are you talking ice time and who plays ? Sure, coaches handle that.

You guys can't tell me that Sutter wants a guy like Purcell on the roster.

Or Seto.

I respect his opinion, too. But you're right.

DL is responsible for player acquisition (player personnel) and drafting, DS is responsible for how he uses the talent that DL assembles. It's that easy.

The GM has to make sure that the coach thinks the player would fit the system. So I would say that it's the GM asking the coach, "Do you want him on the roster"?
 
My original point was that Forbort and Gravel playing (or not playing) was a DS decision. They were already in the King's system, meaning DL had already acquired them (draft)

Forbort got sat for poor play, then sent down. Sure, Sutter could have asked for that.

Gravel played Five games, then was sent down,ultimately that is a Dean Lombardi Decision. Lombardi could have simply said (NO).
