Hes pretty good at plying a possession game, which means less time in the defensive zone.

I just wish he could bring more offensively because he’s an awful player away from the puck.

I dont think you can be awful away from the puck and be a good possession player

I've become infinitely more invested in this season because I just realized that playing Boston in round one is a statistical improbability
I really want to play Boston, I think we're better now (hopefully) and winning against them would lift the monkey off our backs.. might even be the key to push for the cup afterwards.

I like Anderson and Engvall both more than Spezza and Petan.

Coaches see something I don't...

Spezza had 25 points in 58 games last year in 10 minutes per game. This year he has 5 points in 9 games with 9 minutes per game. Really good at faceoffs. I don't know what else you need to see from a 4th liner tbh, he's been everything we were hoping for on a minimum contract.

Yea too bad he's a worse NHL player than Anderson and Engvall

They are likely watching Engvall's games with his waiver exemption, and Petan is a better NHL player than Barabanov and Brooks have shown thus far. Anderson is a pure RW and it looks like we need LW's so that works against him right now.

Petan is worthy of another chance. Not a long one, but I am happy he is getting another shot. He was easily the Marlies' forward last year (when he played) and if he could just skate a little bit better, he'd probably be very effective in the NHL as well.

If nothing else I hope we can re-sign him for the Marlies. He'd be a good mentor for a guy like SDA.

People didn't notice that Petan was pure destruction on the Marlies last year scoring at a 100+ point pace.

That's great but it doesn't matter if he doesn't do anything at the NHL level and he doesn't do anything at the NHL level at least not with the Leafs

Vancouver has 1 big line in Bosser Petterson and Miller focus on them and win this game
I like that this year, I have confidence with any D pair getting caught out there. Rielly-Brodie, Muzzin-Holl, Dermott-Bogosian....all have the ability to get it done against dangerous lines. Likely Muzzin-Holl get the assignment as per usual, but if one of the other pairings gets caught out, it's not as bad as years past

If we're the better team then we should just play our game and let them worry about matching up with us. If we try to match up with them then we're getting away from our game. I believe our recent games against EDM showed the validity of this approach - focusing on their big guns didn't seem to work that well.

The Rielly pair has actually been getting most of the topine matchup so far.

They didn't focus on Edmonton big guns, they didn't even TRY to stop on that PP goal they just let him walk in

What I'd like to see tonight:

  • Improvements from Rielly - Brodie 5v5.
  • Solid 60 minute game from Andersen.
  • Strong night from Tavares after several sluggish games last week.
  • Mitch/Matthews feasting on that Vancouver defence.
  • Give Dermott - Bogo some extra minutes, see what they can do vs better comp.

My fear of Boston left the minute Chara signed with Washington. Crap on his age, mobility and effectiveness all you want, he was always a factor we could never overcome playing against them. Now? Bring them on
