So basically, the Hawks can no longer just out talent the other team, and are struggling to adjust to actually having to play structured hockey?
pretty much sounds like it..we aimlessly were allowed to run around the zone but our skill level and depth at those times made up for it...until it didn't.

@BK

I'm not sure why you try to have a conversation with that fraud about anything hockey related.

You know I will literally talk hockey with anyone. Regardless of his thoughts he is respectful me so I have no issue talking hockey with him.

I don't even think BK defends him anymore.

He puts his stuff out there and is his own person. Not need to defend him one way or the other.

Do I think some of it is a shtick? 100%. Do I think he is a Hawks fan? 100%z

This is exactly it. Duncan Keith said on Spittin' Chicklets: "One of the best things about Joel ... he allowed us to play the game and not overthink it where I think sometimes the way it is now it seems like you gotta--every little situation is already played out for you, laid out for you, how to play it. To me, hockey--you gotta be able to read and react and think quickly and be natural out there and that's kind of what I appreciated about Joel most."

And Keith may play that way naturally and I would argue pretty well still. Patrick Kane is also a natural player and you fit the system to his play.

The problem is most teams are playing a much more structured game and you don't have enough of this natural talent on the Hawks. And you won't with parity.

There is no one on the Preds as talented as Patrick Kane. There's probably several players more talented on the Hawks than Bonino, and yet.

apparently he doesn't put what college he played hockey at out there.....

and he called me and old f***...didn't think I was an old f***, but ok - and no I don't believe he is a Hawks fan, just a f***ing buffoon that is trying to profit off of a sport filled with equally big buffoons that buy up his nonsense..

Yes, but let's look at the results. Bonino goes to the net and gets tips and rebounds and scores 3 goals on 9 shots. The Hawks skate around like ballerinas and get nothing.

Apparently Athanasiou could get traded. Is that someone the Gus haters would be interested in trading for?

which is so f***ing odd with a team that has Shaw, Caggiula, Carpenter, Saad and Kubalik as players that go to the net....that entire game just made zero f***ing sense and looked like a completely different team out there structure and all..

Been questioning the lack of north/south hockey with little grit in Chicago for quite a while. It's like they all think they can play like Kane.

but isn't the Hawks like top 5 in hits??? somehow we are checking players but...not going to the net??

Hit counts don't mean much when a guy like deH is the team leader, yet not a bruise was had - more importantly board battles were generally lost to the ops. There is no substitute for character and hard work, 2 things sadly lacking in Chicago.

I get it, but for a team that has been near the bottom in hits the past decade, having a team top 5 in hits usually means you have guys willing to pay the price to take the body AND go to the net..

I get what you're saying but there's a difference between playing with grit and playing with physicality. Hawks definitely have the former, maybe not so much the latter (save Gilbert, Shaw, Caggiula and Murphy at times).

Cus he didn't play. He'd be listed on a google search of his name. No way something wouldn't come up about him and college hockey. And there's nothing. He's full of shit.
