What you are saying is don't look at the win loss record look at the potential of all our players. Young players after they are drafted all have "potential".
Do you really look at the players that have graduated to the NHL like Cooley & Guenther and only see potential instead of seeing them as key parts of the team now and in the future? I think they've already proven that were good picks and that they have long careers in the NHL ahead of them. They've already proven beyond potential and are only getting better, IMO.
I also look at the players in the AHL and other leagues that are on the way that are also looking like solid picks. So yes, that potential excites me because I believe that in 2 years I won't even think about this season for more than a second because it won't matter.
I think the team is misconstructed, built with great wingers and way below average Cs and Ds
You know that we have players in the system developing and will be joining the team in the next season or two that shore up some of this stuff you say is missing. I don't see the team as misconstructed, I see it as waiting for the other puzzle pieces that are on the way.
Simachev is BA's big pick on D and he won't be here until next season. He's looking really good in the KHL as the big, fast, shut down D that we sorely need and he's doing it in the KHL, granted with limited minutes. I think he goes straight from the KHL to NHL. But hey, that's just potential, right!?
Iginla could even make the team next season at C and start his acclimation to the NHL. I don't think anyone is questioning that he is going to be an NHL player.
The longest part is waiting for players to grow up. The great news is that a good portion of BA's picks not only have potential but look like they could actually make an impact in the NHL. None of his high picks seem to be flopping. A lot of them aren't that far away from knocking on the door either. For this team or trade capital.
Once BA's top picks are all playing in the NHL (it looks like they're all going to make the NHL) he's still going to have a ton of trade currency to build that properly constructed team that we don't have this season. And go all in.
That's what I'm expecting, comfortable with, and excited for. Like I said, I think I'll have forgotten about the pains of the rebuild and what the team looks like right now, in about 2 more seasons. Won't be able to care less.
I do see your point of view though. I disagree but I don't think your full of crap or anything. Just a little pissing match of opinions.
