Don't take the spirit out of playoff hockey; it's what sets it apart from regular season.
Saying that, penalties like Greig's crosscheck should be called 100%.. but come on man that other stuff ruined the game.
there is a difference between hacks/whacks and crosschecks/high sticks to the head
like that was the majority of the penalties. it wasn't really trips/hooks/holds/roughing/interference... it was the dangerous stuff.
they have to keep their stick down because they're gonna call most of the head hitting things (and they even missed a few!)
it's usually the non serious stuff they let go
we had, if i remember correctly, the penalties of consequence:
cross check to the numbers, into the boards
cross check to the numbers, into the boards
cross check to the head
cross check to the head
errant high stick
slew foot on a player who had clear positional advantage and possession and was not engaged in battle
the only one that was iffy was the one done against Tanev just because it was a turn and was probably on tanev but it's still a subjective thing. The rest was 100% penalties and entirely on the lack of discipline. they weren't bad penalty calls by the refs, they were bad penalty calls to take... every single one of them was completely avoidable penalties and served no purpose except to inflict injury/damage (except the high stick as it was just lack of awareness)
