How do you get a boarding penalty when they don't even hit the boards? How is it a trip when you don't even touch their feet until they are half way down already from a hit?

Team needs to get on the league and the refs about tonight. Just play through it will never work, didn't in the 2000s, won't today. SHAME THEM.

I find it funny how the team with the most power plays drawn all year are crying about the refs. Leafs are constantly near the bottom for drawing penalties over the last five years. Boo hoo
And I bet you didn't complain about not getting calls?

That’s 2m in the playoffs everyday. They called the 5 to get the auto-review and take the call off them. They knew it was 2 mins
So it’s 2 mins “in the playoffs” but what’s the ruling in your opinion during the season. I love these people who comment and just say “hey it’s the playoffs! Deal with it” dude WTF is getting cross checked in the face worth in the regular season???????? “They knew it was 2 mins” dude why the f*** would they call a 5 min major to begin with just to cover their ass and go to review? Why not just be a professional and call it as it is

“My excuse is they called a 5 minute penalty..so they could go review it… that allowed them to change their own ruling from 5 to 2 mins because there was no other system available. You know how stupid you sound ?

“They knew it was 2 mins”

omfg dude they originally had a 5 min major!! They literally went to review snd changed it. If they knew it was 2 mins they wouldn’t have to go Through loop holes

Only because we had to open it up. Would have been a much different game if the refs didn't spot you guys 3 goals. Series will tighten up as we go forward and they can't explain gifting you 6 PP per game.
Cool? If you think the series will tighten up and be close then why are you whining on HFBoards at midnight saying the Senators should complain to the league?

Boarding on Strutzle was a bad call and it's the only bad one

batherson Tripping penalty was a slewfoot. Using your foot/leg to push opponent leg from behind is a slewfoot and that's exactly what's batherson did. It was 100% a penalty and a pretty easy call

Blaming the refs is loser talk, always. I preach this to my kids all the time. Don’t take penalties then, I guarantee the refs ain’t looking to have to make a call. Don’t force them too.
Heard many "Refs you suck" chants from the home crowd in what was objectively a one-sided skew for the home team. Loser talk?

Clearly hit him in the shoulder and rode up he didn't miss a shift it was the right call.

I don't really understand the concept of purposely being obtuse. But I won't engage with someone that doesn't understand the sport or would rather be argumentative instead of being factual.
Why should result matter? he cross checked him in the face? Whether he misses the series or takes the next faceoff shouldn't matter. Hence why NHL reffing is bush league.

Wasn’t much of a run, finishing his check like he does regularly during the season. It’s not like he is a guy who gets a hit every now and then. Unfortunate to get that called. Defensemen turns last second, what’s a guy to do?
Be smarter

It’s 1-2 games regular season. Barely a penalty in playoffs. That’s hockey baby.

Call on Strutzle was bad and ref made a mistake on this one for sure...It was not a penalty but it was not the reason Ottawa lost

every other penalty Ottawa took was easy call

It's not the reason they lost but it likely changed the direction of the game.

after 20
ott 13 shot
tor 5 shot

ott scoring chance 7
tor scoring chance 7

Ottawa high scoring chance 1
toronto high scoring chance 4

Tell me what's Ottawa really controlled? Getting shot from everywhere?!?!

They controlled play, first on pucks in both ends and were starring to break through with chances before the parade to the box. Toronto did well to execute on their chances and deserved to win. I just disagree that the 5v5 play was score effects. Toronto wasn't pushing the pace at any point during ES play.

I was at the game and I think the only chant related to the refs was after the Greig call from 5 down to 2. Not really sure what you're referring to.

They were chanting “Ref, you rock!, Ref, you rock!”

Surely you can u set stand the confusion.

It’s exactly what happened. One of us understands and the other doesn’t. Who’s stupid?

Don't take the spirit out of playoff hockey; it's what sets it apart from regular season.

Saying that, penalties like Greig's crosscheck should be called 100%.. but come on man that other stuff ruined the game.

there is a difference between hacks/whacks and crosschecks/high sticks to the head

like that was the majority of the penalties. it wasn't really trips/hooks/holds/roughing/interference... it was the dangerous stuff.

they have to keep their stick down because they're gonna call most of the head hitting things (and they even missed a few!)

it's usually the non serious stuff they let go

we had, if i remember correctly, the penalties of consequence:

cross check to the numbers, into the boards
cross check to the numbers, into the boards
cross check to the head
cross check to the head
errant high stick
slew foot on a player who had clear positional advantage and possession and was not engaged in battle

the only one that was iffy was the one done against Tanev just because it was a turn and was probably on tanev but it's still a subjective thing. The rest was 100% penalties and entirely on the lack of discipline. they weren't bad penalty calls by the refs, they were bad penalty calls to take... every single one of them was completely avoidable penalties and served no purpose except to inflict injury/damage (except the high stick as it was just lack of awareness)

That's the Berube system... let your opponent keep the puck but keep them in the outside and let them shot from the outside but gave nothing in the middle? that's exactly what Toronto did in 1st except on one play and that gave up sens goal

Nothing flashy, keep thing simple and wait for your chance, that's the Berube effect
