What's best for them is Suter and Erne being launched out of the team trebuchet into the sun. (Arizona)

This team has enough kids and AHL talent to be call ups for decent depth in the 12th/13th/14th forward spots.

Lalonde will lock both Erne and Suter on the roster.

All this this talk is preparing, for Veleno to be sent down.

- Veleno goes to play for GR, and will be first callup, if one NHL center is injured.
- Zadina will be 13th forward, and they'll rotate on some games with Söderblom. Or both are instantly in, if there is winger injury.
- Givani Smith will be called up as a 14th bench warmer.

Now it's come to the point where they should just trade Zadina. Doesnt seem like he's going to be in any future long term plans. Had a better preseason than everyone in the bottom 6 IMO. Best for him to move on as well get a fresh start elsewhere. Then hopefully Berggren can get called up.

is Lalonde afraid of criticism from the fanbase or something?

all this media stuff kinda reads like he wants to send all the prospects+Veleno down and is soft-pedaling it in the hopes of people not blaming him

No coach, especially a new one, wants to start the season on the wrong foot with a fanbase, especially a highly irrational one that doesn't see the wisdom in what he is saying.

Because, honestly, the subtext of what he is saying is that everyone on the bottom 6 needs to pick their game up a big notch if this team wants to take a big step forward. And since kids like Veleno/Soderblom/Berggren all are being seen as players who should have a bigger role with the team and not just being used as 4th line cannon-fodder, Lalonde is simply saying that the kids need more minutes than what they would be getting at this point. I'm sure a lot of the issue is that they would love for Veleno to compete with Rasmussen for the 3rd line center role, but he doesn't seem hungry enough for it. And since Suter isn't waiver eligible...it's a numbers game. Same with Soderblom. It's nice to want to make the team, but the organization wants him to force them to trade someone, rather than relegate himself to a 4th line player. And they're going to then, because of his waiver status, send him down until he's ready to take a job from someone.

dunno but having him on the halfwall wont workout. Hes not a playmaker, nor a sniper. Rather Berggren be on the team and play that position
I agree he may not be ideal, but I don't see a better option currently on the roster. Eh, they'll see how it goes and then I'm sure there will be several personnel changes in the first several weeks. He could be one of them.

Yeah...the hard part is that with the way our roster is constructed, Yzerman was almost daring the rookies to be assertive and force his hand to trade people...and they haven't done that yet. He's gone on record and said that he will trade folks if he has to, but only if a player forces him to do so. That's why Perron and Kubalik are here on two year deals. It's why Maata is only signed to a one year deal. He wants our players to get out of the mode of just "making the team" and to become more about being the best player and let the chips fall where they may. If that means someone whose been with the team for a few years gets traded...so be it. But that's on them, as much as it is on the player "taking" that spot from them.

I approve of any post about trading Bustina.

Trade him and Hronek for Larsson in Seattle. Gift Oesterle back to Arizona and call Edvinsson up full time at the halfway point.

D transformation COMPLETE!!!

"Over in Flint, Michigan, they've had to test their water for a few years now, and sometimes boil it before drinking. With a slew of new faces from the head coach to the zamboni driver here in Little Caesar's Arena for the season opener, we hope that our 2022-2023 Red Wings are ready to pass some tests of their own, and that we haven't just been boiling our own water before making the Kool-Aid out of it." - Plausible Keats

itll end up being

Bert Larkin Raymond
Vrana Copp Perron
Elmer Ras Sunny
Kubalik Suter Erne

Veleno will go to GR, Just don't see them scratching Suter
Zadina will be scratched, no room for him on the PP apparently.
Smith will be called up in velenos place.

still good enough to beat MTL

How is Copp on the PP dumb? He was always PP2 both in Winnipeg and with the Rangers. He's our 2C so it makes sense to put him on the PP2.
shouldve clarified. Specifially on the halfwall role which he was at. Parked in front sure.

and he has 23 pp points in his career.
1 PP point on the rangers.

We're entering the stage of the rebuild where we're not just looking for any young guys. We need young guys who will be best in class in their role. A lot of guys will get filtered out. Zadina is clearly on his way out. Veleno can still carve out a bottom 6 role. Rasmussen is the one of the three who has proven he can not just survive but thrive in a role on this team, which is nice to see considering his development has been rough.
Ultimately if they get beat for these top 9 spots then they're not guys we need. It's best to make peace with that.
