TSN: Gally/Tavares/Willy line makeup interesting...

Until I see otherwise ... We are the just latest bus stop from #3 draft pick to NHL dropout.
Personally I would have preferred giving Korshkov a good shot in the NHL ...
Korshkov didn't make it against decent competition that's okay. I was high on him. But this trade was no contest the risk is better then the reward.

Play defensively great and he’s a team upgrade because the scoring will be there structured off of team play. He doesn’t have to apply any pressure other than positioning and team play. He could have fun with this team being a support player. Keefe has a great locker room going on with the team now. They looked to be funing it in practice too.
I honestly thought MTL found a Stud. Maybe we threw to much Jinx on him lol.

I'm confused by the Galchenyuk hype.

The guy was cast off by 4 different NHL franchises, 3 of whom all thought the same thing: "Oh we can turn this guy around".

He wasn't exactly a sought after piece for this team either - they basically picked him up as a throwaway piece in a deal that was designed to create a contract spot for themselves.

I'll be happy to have him prove me wrong, but I'm fully expecting him to not work out here.

It helps he has a track record of production too. Sure he’s fallen off a bit but I don’t see Vesey having a 30 goal season ever.

Then it makes one wonder why were the Leafs signing Jimmy Vesey to a UFA contract on Oct 11, 2020, and then a few weeks on Oct 28 Ottawa signed Galchenyuk.

October 11, 2020
The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that the hockey club has signed forward Jimmy Vesey to a one-year contract valued at $900,000.

October 28, 2020
The Ottawa Senators announced today that the team has signed forward Alex Galchenyuk to a one-year contract. The agreement holds a value of $1.05M for the 2020-21 season.

Vesey’s dad works for the Leafs and Galchenyuk makes more $$$ albeit not by much I guess.

I only have 1 question for you? Who on this line of yours is going to take pucks away from other teams defenders? ie how does this line get any puck? To me I just don't see much hope for this line. It won't be able to get pucks in offensive end so it will be totally reliant on our defenders to pass it to them and any chance they get will be on da rush only. I guess we will see on Friday night ... my guess by Saturday Wayner will be there again
I mean, Nylander's takeaway numbers have always been pretty darn good. Tavares is no slouch there either. I definitely don't see that being a problem.

If you're Galchenyuk, and you're 27 years old, and you have maybe one more shot to prove to the world that you still belong in the NHL, which group of forwards do you want to be competing with for a job? IMO he went to Ottawa by choice.

What hype? It's certainly not in this thread.

There wasn't much of a fit at the time either, especially if Hyman stuck with Nylander or Tavares. Galchenyuk hasn't exactly been known for his defensive or more physical play you'd expect from the bottom 6.

If he scores two tonight I’ll hype him.

If I were to guess, Vesey was high on Leafs radar long ago. Like Gally, he was a project who was once higher on their list.

So, Galchenyuk would have been in a similar boat, Leafs chose the player they were most comfortable with, with less financial commitment.

I'm not so much excited, as I am curious. Can he bring what is needed to play in the NHL? Will he play a 2 way game? Etc.

Tonight we will know ... lets hope you are right ... i'd luv to see Willy get back as a puck beast and control games like last year

Not sure hype is the right word either.

I always look at value, what is potentially exciting is that Gally seems like a much better fit for JT and Willie. I think he can outplay his contract - easily.

Willie is a puck possessor and play maker first, streaky scoring.
JT is a pro, a top end mucker, garbage goals to tips and slot shots.
I like the shot of Gally and I think it really compliments his mates. I like his chances to finish chances.

In my opinion, he has a much better chance to make an impact over Vesey.

I wish him well. Hopefully it will be a rare case where certain line mates just gel better than others. I hope he proves every team wrong that gave up on him.

Agreed. Toronto probably offered him minimum level money and he refused.

Im not gonna lie, I wanted the Leafs to draft him originally and I was disappointed when Montreal snatched him. I understand the hype, he's got skill. Maybe hyped isn't a good word, I'm cautiously optimistic that he can recapture some of his mojo and be a productive scorer on that second line. If he doesn't work out, big deal, we don't have alot invested in him.
