TSN: Gally/Tavares/Willy line makeup interesting...

He's got the raw skills of of an nhler. There's going to be zero risk trying him for a game or two

The Leafs either bounce a goal or two off him for dirt cheap aav value or he gets relaxed. He's probably not going to be worse with the pick than Vesey who was basically just a body on skates for the Leafs

This is a dumb argument. I guess the last 2 and a half years are "sight unseen".

Exactly. so he bounced around from Montreal to Arizona to Pittsburgh to Ottawa and he is going to all of a sudden figure it out in Toronto? I doubt it. He probably goes back on waivers by end of April. Having said that, I am not here to win any arguments. I hope he does well and surprises us because I am a Leafs fan and it will beneficial for the Leafs if he does well. Here's hoping he succeeds and we are 100% wrong.

Folks are just overthinking this.

The front office traded an asset who they viewed as having zero % future with the team for one that may have as little as 1-5% future with the team. I don't think anyone is banking on him being a major factor. If he helps the team win a couple games then it's a solid win of a move.

I am guilty of this lol, but truthfully it would be nice if he does pan out.

The difference is that the Leafs worked with him early and worked on what I heard deemed as any "weaknesses". Be it his skating or what have you.

Then, for the first time; had him play some games in the AHL to get in some action, build his confidence and give him the chance to earn a spot in the NHL, presumably with some of the tweaks to his game. Even if it were only for optics and they always intended to give him a shot, it was all a positive outcome from what I am reading and his success down there can only motivate him.

Finally, he now knows more than ever, that he might be out of the league for good. Any player naturally is going to feel the possibility that maybe he is not good enough anymore as so many have moved him. So, just as Kovalchuk knew when he landed in Montreal it was his last chance to show he still had it, Gally may see the same danger for his career.

He has an opportunity that many he played with in the AHL will never have. It's up to him to grab it. Becoming a top, effective, winning player in any original six franchise is a big deal for ones career prospects.

before beginning a six-game stint with the Marlies.
Galchenyuk shone there on the team’s top line with Nic Petan and Alex Barabanov, recording two goals and eight points before Wednesday’s recall.
“I'm happy that I kept progressing with each game,” Galchenyuk said of his AHL play. "It keeps getting better and better. I played a lot of ice time, played in a lot of different situations, and I haven't done that in a year or so. To go down there and find my game and to bring it here, that was huge for me.”

sounds like a player getting their confidence back. Let’s give him a clean slate and critique him more after at least a couple games

Al Arbour said to Bill Torrey in reference to Mike Bossy, we can teach him to play defence but we can't teach him to score.

If Galchenyuk brings an unteachable skill, then maybe the Leafs coaching staff can bring him up to the necessary standards on the things they can teach.

Mark me down as hopeful/undecided on this experiment.

It's a change, anyway, from whats been happening. At worst its a transition from an inferior player -- Vesey -- to something else not yet decided.

Good luck with the leafs teaching anyone anything about defense.

Gally is a no risk , high reward situation. Gally has done very well in the AHL. I am very interested to see how this goes.

Yeah, I don't understand what the deal is with people shitting on Gally.
If he doesn't do well, oh well.

It's not like Korshkov had a chance of cracking our lineup this year.

Little to no risk, with potential for high reward. We're the first team to pump the breaks and give him some time to get set here in our system down with the Marlies. And he dominated down there and the coaches had nothing but good things to say about him. He can absolutely rip a puck too, which will help the second PP if he sees that chance. Hope it goes well for him if he gets in tonight

We're bound to hit on one of these players, Barabanov, Vesey, Lehtonen, Galchenyuk
Two games coming up for him to show he is into it. The rest of the season after is his career. Pretty simple. Same game every time is what he needs to show. That’s hard to do coming in flat but now he’s played for the Marlies and good at that. A nice defensive games works wonders for him to move forward

Ottawa was a joke the way they utilized him earlier.

He was consistently a 20ish goal scorer (around half on the PP) with around 16ish minutes a night, a career 12% shooter. its pretty clear other teams limited his time on ice and he generates half of his offence from the PP.

I think we've hit on one player fromteh KHL, Mikeyhev and he isnt really all that spcial, he;s an energy bomb , but that is about it. Ozaganov, Zaitsev, Lehotonen, Barabanov, nothing special TBH. Who was the last Russian we had that was good Markov?

The Leafs look not too bad defensively lately.

It really doesn't matter what a previous coaching staff did or didn't do. It's not like the climate or the water would prevent this group from working something out.

I think this team has a defensive system to teach.
