Value of: Gabriel Vilardi

With the cap being known to go up so much the next few years I have no idea. 9 mil might be fair soon enough.

8.5 AAV sounds about right.

One year from UFA? Cap projected to jump for the next 3 years means 9 AAV isn't crazy.

8 year contract too due to injury history. Has to cash in. Bonus heavy too to prevent buyout after possible injury later in career.

If not, he'll go UFA to a team where the GM isn't worried about years 5-7.

Jets shouldn't be worried about the end of any long contracts, their window is Helle/Scheifele and then a whole bunch of mystery.

Yes the cap is going up a ton but he is not getting paid more than Scheifele.
I could see it based on % of cap. Schief signed at 9.66% at the time... if you give vilardi 8.75% of the 95.5M cap, it comes out to 8.365M... I think that's fine. Even up to 9% of cap which is 8.595M

I'm sure schief won't give a f*** if Gabe makes more money than him. Schief wants to win, and Gabe helps that... plus, Gabe makes Schief better and bumps his production

Offer him 50m over 7 years and I bet he extends.
A lot of players like playing here once they get there.

RFA that has had a terrific year. Has had injury troubles in the past. Due for a pretty big raise. What will his next contract look like? Is he at risk of a team putting in an offer sheet (is he eligible this year?)

He seems like a 9M+ guy in the market
9M+ would be a huge risk/mistake imo. He's having a great year but he's also the 3rd best player on a very stacked line.

Teams looking for a young center like him will overpay for him. Cap going up will give these teams more room to run with offers. Pens, Boston, Islanders, Rangers to name a few.

He hasn't played center for a couple years, but I could see teams viewing him as one still. He's certainly got the vision and IQ to do so. FWIW, he has been decent on draws this season though (50%).

Not sure cap going up is good or not for RFA offers. But teams that have the ability to spend will certainly be in a better position.

I’ve seen people mentioning 9 mil +. Seems like an awful lot for a player who’s never played a full season. And despite him having a really good year this season, he’s still under a ppg. I’d hope someone getting paid 9+ million would be over a ppg on the regular.

Was just about to say this. His woman wants out of the Peg and back to Cali…warmer weather lol.
It's possible she's made friends with the other wives and girlfriends here

The Jets locker room is very tight, and it wouldn't surprise me if the SOs were too. TNSE is all about building community

Is Vilardi eligible to sign an offer sheet? Lots of reasons why he could potentially leave:
-Negotiations go poorly and he can cash in big. If he's eligible to sign an offer sheet, a 1st, 2nd, 3rd tier is 9.1M upper bound. This will probably go higher with the rising cap for next year. He's worth a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd and I can easily see teams offering 9M+ to make it really hard on Winnipeg to match.
-Falling Canadian dollar might have a team like Winnipeg more binded to spend to the cap and offer top dollar to all players. Winnipeg might not be able to spend to keep him. Winnipeg has a ton of cap space though
-If he goes to arbitration and signs a 1 year, he'll be in trade speculations all year. Things can sour fast between player and team.
-There wouldn't be a shortage of teams interested in him (good and bad in standings) next year. I think at least 24 teams would be fighting for him and can offer a range of intriguing options from team success, city environment, etc.

Vilardi has to sign the offer sheet first of all. Given the relationship that Chevy has with his players, agents, and other GMs - I don’t think it’s likely. Gabe got treated like an outsider in Los Angeles but was welcomed with open arms in Winnipeg, and has been fed top line time when he didn’t expect it. He seems like a good dude, so why would he sabotage the team that helped turn him into what he is? Injuries are also a concern given his history, so he would prefer a long term contract instead of punting negotiations down the road every 2 years. Chevy is definitely a grinder but negotiates in good faith. We’ve always re-signed our players at reasonable amounts, and most top line talents choose to stay instead of exploring the market. All signs point towards him staying long term aside from whatever his girlfriend wants to do.
