With the cap being known to go up so much the next few years I have no idea. 9 mil might be fair soon enough.

8.5 AAV sounds about right.

One year from UFA? Cap projected to jump for the next 3 years means 9 AAV isn't crazy.

8 year contract too due to injury history. Has to cash in. Bonus heavy too to prevent buyout after possible injury later in career.

If not, he'll go UFA to a team where the GM isn't worried about years 5-7.

Jets shouldn't be worried about the end of any long contracts, their window is Helle/Scheifele and then a whole bunch of mystery.

Yes the cap is going up a ton but he is not getting paid more than Scheifele.
I could see it based on % of cap. Schief signed at 9.66% at the time... if you give vilardi 8.75% of the 95.5M cap, it comes out to 8.365M... I think that's fine. Even up to 9% of cap which is 8.595M

I'm sure schief won't give a f*** if Gabe makes more money than him. Schief wants to win, and Gabe helps that... plus, Gabe makes Schief better and bumps his production

RFA that has had a terrific year. Has had injury troubles in the past. Due for a pretty big raise. What will his next contract look like? Is he at risk of a team putting in an offer sheet (is he eligible this year?)

He seems like a 9M+ guy in the market
9M+ would be a huge risk/mistake imo. He's having a great year but he's also the 3rd best player on a very stacked line.

Teams looking for a young center like him will overpay for him. Cap going up will give these teams more room to run with offers. Pens, Boston, Islanders, Rangers to name a few.

He hasn't played center for a couple years, but I could see teams viewing him as one still. He's certainly got the vision and IQ to do so. FWIW, he has been decent on draws this season though (50%).

Not sure cap going up is good or not for RFA offers. But teams that have the ability to spend will certainly be in a better position.
