Kubalik never would commit to the Kings and wouldn't even come to camps, so how could the Kings do anything with him, let alone pair him with someone? He showed zero interest. That move had everything to do with Kubalik and nothing to do with the Kings.

Necas will be solid, but a #1? He's never shown anything close to that kind of ability. #1 guys come in and dominate at a young age, like Kopitar, McDavid, Towes, etc. His ceiling is a 2/3, which isn't bad at all, but he's never shown top line chops.
Knowing Blake he probably low balled Kubalik and didn't guarantee him a roster spot or at least a good chance to make it. Kubalik could have been LA's best LWinger and if given the chance in Chicago he will prove it!

While I agree with u that Kubalik can turn out to be a top 6 player but at the same time he can bust or be nothing more than a role player . However though I don’t think it’s Blakes doing considering he drafts lots of euros now which is good and where the skill is at more nowadays and he is patient with their development overseas he did get Prokhorkin to come over and guarantee a spot .

Lombardi is more responsible for Kubalik and Prokhorkin souring with us because he wouldn’t guarantee them a spot due to his ego after winning two cups which we will always be greatful for . Porkins came but Kubalik might have still had the taste in his mouth lol. We will never know . But Chicago is building something nice again . They Saarela , Kubalik Strome one mans loss is another mans treasure . Chicago is going to win another cup in these next few years and will be one of the best organizations of the last 20 years once it happens . They play their cards right and Blake is headed in the right direction in my eyes learning from the rest

I think Blake is a slave to loyalty. He's also protecting jobs or worse not looking at talent staring him squre in the eyes and making a sound business move and that was signing Kubalik and getting him over here pronto was a must have! Ditto for Prokhorkin. Nikolai was an merging star in the KHL and at 25-26 year old, a seasoned veteran! GM Blake needed to clean house after the stink-up of last year...trading Tanner Pearson and Jake Muzzin wasn't enough. He should have looked at others to open another spot or two! 30th overall was crap but getting Turcotte is going to be worth it! And what I truly like about young Turcotte (son of Alfie and Grandson of Real Turcotte, from Quebec,Canada) was how grateful he was to his Papa and Grandpapa! Kings got a young one!And I have high hopes for many others...just wanted Kubalik signed, sealed and delivered even for a 1 year(rookie max) prove it deal. Show your skills, score and that deal becomes a 3-4 year deal with bonuses and a middling contract of 4-5 million!

How do you low ball an ELC? And he didn't get a one-way deal with the Hawks either. Plus he has a European Assignment Clause in his deal with the Hawks. Translation, if he doesn't make the team, he's going back to Europe. Kings wanted him to come over for years. He choose not too. Kubalik, not the Kings doing. I even talked in person to Futa about this two years ago. Same story at that time. You can lay the blame all day long on Lombardi and Blake, but the blame for not coming over to the Kings is on the shoulders of the player. At some point, they had to get a return on the asset since it was clear he wasn't interested in Los Angeles. I like the player too, he's got a great release.

There's that thing called a hard cap. You don't get to clean house when you have a lot of old guys with term.

I wouldn't mind the criticisms at all if even half of the posters would face the music when they find out they're wrong...but the guys making the most bombastic statements have a habit of hiding/disappearing for years at a time when that happens.
You talking about the people who said LaBarbera was a #1 and Klatt was a top 6er?

Kubalik has suddenly turned into the next Bud Holloway. Tears shed over nothing.

Kubalik is going to rip it up in Rockford this season playing next to Versteeg.

Wait, isn't this the Vilardi thread?

Not much to discuss there, but I guess we can revisit this topic every month to get the latest no status change update concerning Vilardi.

On the plus side, at least we have moved on from the “when is Voynov coming back?” discussions.

The unfortunate part of having no updates. I just didn't want people clogging up this thread talking about other people's junk

The exciting and groundbreaking Vilardi update we’ve all been waiting for:

Kings 2019 Rookie Camp Roster Preview; Kempe and Vilardi Notes

And What About Vilardi:
– Now for the big news. Seemingly everybody wants to know about Gabe Vilardi. From what we’re hearing, he is “doubtful” for Rookie Camp. Word is, he’s “progressing” but they’re not at a point where a definitive decision has been made yet. Thus, we now return you to your regularly scheduled summer programming.

“Doubtful” for rookie camp and “progressing” are more definite descriptions of his situation than we’ve had from the Kings in months.
