I don't think this was a bad trade considering the fact that Gaborik may very well be done as an elite winger in this league.

Fans are going to love Dorsett.

Brassard is at a major crossroad in his career, personally I don't think he'll ever be an elite scorer, but he is serviceable.

Moore is interesting to me. There's no reason, with this teams makeup on the blueline, that he can't develop into a solid two-way NHL defenseman.

Make no mistake, this team did not rebuild with this trade. They simply got what they could for a player who may be starting his career decline.

I think it's fair to say, this team is not a championship contender this season. They just don't stack up with the elite teams.

Sanity, as usual, kind sir. We've discussed this before, but, it looks like the Rangers finally got Brassard.

I'm a little surprised at the timing — especially when you look at the return. I would have thought it would be more valuable to the franchise to keep him for the stretch and hope he gets hot and then look to deal him at the draft.

I'm guessing the feeling on both sides was we'd both be better off ending this relationship now. I have to wonder if that's the case, if it had an effect on the return they got.

Absolutely terrible trade. No one value and we gave up a first line winger. Shamed to be a Rangers fan right now with that terrible trade

If Brad Richards is on this team next year, I'm suspending my fanship. I'll root for CLS and/or PHX. Haha, oh yea, CLS will be in our division.

Also, can the garden fix their ice already? It's the NHL, I don't care what the reason is. We're building a team that can't pass or stick-handle to fit our rink. This team makes me dislike watching hockey sometimes.

Anything else I can rail against in my rage? Move Maloney to the booth and throw Michelletti to NBC with the rest of 'them'.

What's disappointing about this move is that, when a team has championship aspirations, you never trade a "dollar" for "four quarters."

Lundqvist makes you believe that a Cup is always in play. You don't get closer to it by trading the exceptional player for depth players. That isn't to say depth is unimportant, it is, but individual talent is far more important in the pursuit of a Cup than a collection of depth players.

We've now preserved our "core" for what exactly? Space to sign McInconsistent? Stepan was always going to get his, and there's space for that. You keep the team together, you see how adding Clowe's grit fills the Powe void and try to plug in the offseason.

Now we get to spend the better part of 8 months wondering where the scoring is going to come from. It makes no sense.

We got no 1st draft picks for Gabby and Nashville just got Filip Forsberg for Martin effi... Erat. Unbelievable !!!

Doesn't sound like we got any first-liners for Gaborik, but I think too many people are missing the point. This is a salary hard-cap league with the cap for next year going down 5 million. Gaborik eats up about 15% of next years cap, with McD, Stepan and others off their ELC after next year. For that he has produced almost nothing - he is a sniper who doesn't snipe, a skater who wasn't skating, a goal-scorer who wasn't scoring, and he acted like he didn't give a crap to boot. He is also 32 years old, so the liklihood is that, while he may do okay for another year or two with Columbus (anyone think they're winning the Cup the next two years?), he's very much on the downside of his career.

I'm far from in love with Tortorella's dump and chase style, in fact, I think it sucks, but we got some young good bodies in here and freed up lots of money (assuming a Richards buyout) to get another first-line player next year or the year after as a free agent, plus sign our good young kids.

I can agree that sometimes it seems Rangers do some things in panic mode (like Republicans agreeing to give citizenship to a few million illegal aliens who are going to vote Democrat because some liberal in the media told them they need to attract Hispanics) without a clear plan, but this is not a bad trade for us.

And somehow, David Poile manages to deal Erat and Latta for Filip Forsberg. Sather flips Gaborik and brings back a role player and two underachieving young players...

The Predators were looking for prospects. We're looking for players to help the team now.

Completely different situations.

Gaborik hasn't been exceptional this year by any means. He hasn't even been close.

McInconsistent? He's a young first pairing defenseman. Ask some other fans if they'd like him on their first pair and get back to me.

I spent the past months wondering where the scoring was going to come from too because Gaborik wasn't providing it.

Don't really understand the obsession with draft picks on this board

I don't, either.

But when you trade a guy who can score 40 goals you better get a first round pick along with the scrubs.

Instead Slats opted for a guy who hasn't lived up to his billing as a higher first rounder.

I'm sick.

I can't believe people are upset after watching gabby this year. He is a virtual 0 on the ice parading around as a 1st liner. The guy adds nothing.

It's a prospect board. What do you expect?

Personally, I was really hoping for a young player to develop with first line upside. Maybe it was just a pipe dream.

Also hasn't been talked about a ton - but if Gabby continued his disappearing act down the stretch, or worse, got hurt - the Rangers would have been in deep trouble.

Unable to move him at the draft, or for much less than this. Potential RFA issues.

Anything can be spun negatively. The Preds just traded a perennial 50 pt scorer for a guy with mediocre stats in the Swedish Jr league.
