Looks like he won game 7 in OT....

41 saves for Fucale tonight. Halifax was getting outplayed badly in OT, Fucale was the only reason they had a chance.
Cameron Critchlow scoring all four regulation goals also helped. Man, that guy really didn't want this to be his last junior game.

Wait until this guy gets some muscle on him. Technically he's sound and a terrific battler too. Best Moose goalie since Volkov.

Fucale has been used a lot this season, (68 games including the Playoffs to date), quite a heavy number for a 16-year old goalie in junior but seems to be taking it all in his stride. I do wonder whether he actually will fatigue if Halifax do qualify for the Q Championship.

The reason why he hasn't worn down is his style- he makes it look easy with his positioning and doesn't waste energy.

His mental game is off the charts as well- I am actually surprised Patrick Roy didn't try to play mind games with Zach.... not that it would have worked anyways.

He will have a short summer, a trip to the Hlinak tourney with Canada seems in order......

Fucale was the best player on the ice last night. If you switch both goalies, this game might end up 10-3 for the remparts. Dominant display during the OT to give his chance to win. At one point I thought he would crumble to fatigue but nope, he stayed sharp all night long.

On top of that, he also played 5 games for Quebec at the under-17 tournament, right in the middle of the season. Not many goalies in any league play this many games in one year.

I think this is the real key for Fucale. He's not making anything more difficult than it needs to be.
Watching him in overtime last night with that terrible quality video feed, it was hard to make out where a lot of the shots were going, but Fucale never seemed to move all that much. Even on the occasions where he needed to get back in position quickly, he never scrambled.
The more you watch Fucale, the more it becomes clear that he has the mental make-up to be a great goalie.

What are his chances of earning one of the two WJC roster spots for this years teams?

Do we think MacKinnon and Drouin locks to make that team?

Maybe. I think Malcolm Subban would give him a good run for that spot. Felt he should have been 'there' in Alberta.

MacKinnon was unfortunate to miss out and I think various people mentioned that it was good for him to miss it and that he should be there in 2013.

At the moment, I'd have them in for sure.

Fucale has the potential to be there for sure, but its always tough to make it as a goaltender especially at 17. Mackinnon should be there so long as he keeps it up and progresses.

I would not call Drouin a lock to make the team at all, he wouldn't be able to play a role on the bottom 6 and he isn't one of the better offensive junior players in the country yet. He has been gaining a lot of attention lately but remember he only has half a year of junior experience and a few playoff rounds under his belt so far.

If they did all make the team though, would it be the first time 3 draft eligible players from one team played?

Mooseheads lose tonight to Rimouski going down 0-2 in the series.

Focus and concentration once again the bane of Fucale. Every time the Mooseheads went up a goal, Fucale found a way to let in a questionable goal shortly after. I don't think one of the Rimouski goals tonight were good goals to give up.

I really think everyone who thinks his game in game 2 was a focus and concentration thing really knows that much about the game...the downfall was the defense, easy to blame a goalie for letting the goal in...but the Rimouski guys were right in front a point blank no defense, another was was the 3rd shot on goal, he let in a weak goal though on the blocker side but that was his anticipation anticipating a pass rather than a shot as he was cheating on the pass...the halifax defense was a total colapse I have to say they were not taking there man, they were coughing thep uck up, making bad plays....not Fucale but the defense was the reason for that loss.....

Halifax has been brutal in front of him this series, it was an issue versus Quebec when Roy was sending the Remparts crashing to the net on every shot.

Fucale will hopefully be better on the road.

picking apart what mooseheads have to do......

1. Better Power Play, they have the same play all the time where Abaulthauser fakes a shot and passes right or left to a guy hanging high...you know what Abaulthauser has to take that shot sometimes from the point as he never does.

2. More simple play in there own end, they are chasing guys behind the net, letting guys get in front, defense has not clue about working the puck out of the zone and their communication is horrible where players just drift over to try to take the puck from a guy and leave their guy wide open in front.

3. Mackinnon, Drouin, Critchlow are doing great, more guys have to start going to the net with the puck like these guys to get the offense all around chipping...

the main problem though is the power play and there defensive zone....Halifax is great on transition play with there speed and skill....but when they have to set up plays and play stratgy they seem very scrambly and again the defense needs to learn positioning.

Bump!

Zach will get his year started hopefully by being part of the tandem for Canada at the U18 next month and bring back a title and then be a huge part of the first Q championship for the Mooseheads.

With Terenzio returning this year I don't see the need for Zach playing in 60-70 straight games :D this year. I say Zach probably plays 50-55 games max this year during the regular season.

He is first round material but with the depth of talent in the 2013 draft especially up front I could see him being a second round steal for somebody unless some team deems they need a top goalie prospect and takes him in the first.

You're right with how many games he'll play this year. Unless the Moose trade Terenzio for a D-man or depth forward, Fucale will play around 55 this year. But I'll be completely surprised if his name is left on the board after the 15th pick. He might end up being one of the best goalie prospects we've seen in the last 10 years.
