It doesn’t make any sense to me, he left Nashville because he wasn’t getting any NHL time just to be in the same situation in SJ..

With Nashville, it was because they signed Saros to an 8-year extension (plus the one had remaining on his prior deal) with a full No Movement Clause. They basically said "you will not be the Starter" and then did the Shock Pickachu face that he asked to be traded somewhere where he was not actively blocked for almost decade.

Couldn’t agree more. Nashville forced his hand. One of the worst decisions in recent years.

Obviously, he misplayed the puck on the first goal. However, he had a good game overall. He had one stellar save and another very tough one to keep the game close.

It's a good sign for Askarov to have stayed focused after the rough start. One of the issues in Milwaukee was his ability to rebound when things went a little off the rails. He has a capacity to take chances, whiff on pucks, etc. Which he overall more than makes up for with his incredible skill. But the key for him is really in the mental aspect of recovering in the immediate sense within a given game. So when you see him put up a game like that where he has done so effectively, that's a great sign.

He's a battler man, love him. Excluding Blackwood, it's been a while since the Sharks have had a legit goalie. Super excited to watch him develop.
Just need to eject Georgiev into the sun.

I see his playing style hasn't changed since his draft year, still overcommits to one side and leaves the other side of the net wide open, forcing him to make these 'amazing' saves. Really don't think this is a sustainable way to play in the long-run, having to rely on pure athleticism rather than solid positioning.

I would agree with that. That said, the results have been great for us so far.

I mean, he makes the saves consistently. The last few years, other than Blackwood, our goalies wouldn’t overcommit but those goals would’ve easily gone in anyway.

All in all, he’s been fantastic. His ability to move the puck, to kick rebounds out to his guys for a quicker transition and to pull out amazing saves consistently is just a delight to watch. He’s an elite goaltender.

He’s also very quickly becoming a fan favorite. His celebrations may have soured old school guys but in San Jose, our culture was set by bearded Jumbos and wild wookies — he fits right in.
