Am I reading this chart right? 31% of NCAA players play in the NHL?

This is why NCAA hockey isnt takin too seriously. Just embarrassing in a national championship game.

^embarrassing and not being taken seriously^

letting one's insecurities flow is how one ends up on the dark side

I'm assuming you haven't played much high-end hockey. Usually when two top teams compete at any level it's just the fluky bounces that seperate the teams.

Why is Buf out ???

Maybe they backed out having used up a contract slot tonight by signing another undrafted BU player, Evan Rodrigues. Maybe O'Connor eliminated them because he thinks Buffalo isn't a good fit.
To add to Paxon's post, the Buffalo depth chart shakes out to be C.Johnson, Lindback (UFA), then Hackett (UFA), Makarov, Ullmark (hip surgery soon) in Rochester, so I still think they're adding a goalie, but maybe Murray has decided to go in another direction after his latest viewing of O'Connor at the regionals or what not. He always seemed like a replacement for Hackett to me when speaking of fit in the Sabres organization.

Ya maybe it was hard to garuntee a position since that's what O'Connor is looking for. Is this guy worth garunteeing a position for??

I'm really surprised he chose Ottawa. I know Hammond is a UFA but there's a ton of competition in Ottawa with Anderson, and Lehner even if the Hamburglar is gone.

If you look closer at it, it actually makes a lot of sense. I believe O'Connor's camp was looking at a few things in terms of his choice, neither of which was how crowded the crease was at the NHL level. Really, the whole Hammond thing impacts Lehner or Anderson more, because they will all be at the NHL level next year. If one of them had a two-way deal where they would clear waivers and play in Bingo, I think that would have impacted his decision more.

First off, the Sens and their goalie coach, Rick Wamsley, have really helped young goalies in the development of Lehner and Hammond after extended periods in the minors. They became much better goalies under their guidance, and the transformation of Hammond in particular had to get O'Connor's attention. Hammond was an average NCAA goalie.

Second, there is really not a ton of competition for O'Connor to become the starter in Bingo right away at the AHL level. He's has acknowledged he doesn't want to be rushed or feel like he is jumping in as a savior. But at the AHL level, Driedger has struggled in the pros thus far (to an extent) and Hogberg is wild card to ever come over. The Sens really have no blue chip goalie prospects in the pipeline, so in that sense, it is a great opportunity for him.

At the pro level, Anderson will 34 in a week and Lehner took a step back this year, and one might be traded if the Sens keep Hammond, opening the door even wider for O'Connor in a couple of years.

It's always good to get a solid prospect for free, Ottawa may have done that here. Like others have mentioned the starting position for Binghamton is pretty much his. However, Lehner is still here and is very young. I'd be a little concerned if I was Matt, because Lehner won't be easily passable in the depth chart. I thought EDM or BUF might be a good fit longterm for him, but Ottawa has done great in the past with their young goalies so it makes sense.

Checking back on Matt O'Connor well past the mid-way point of the season and I'm surprised at his stat line. Is Binnington that bad, or is O'Connor part of the problem? Will he be one of those goalies that are bad in the AHL but lights out in the NHL?

I don't watch many Bingo games (actually none at all this year), but from the eye test he is playing on a bottom feeder team.

I think part of the problem too is that Bingo is in a bit of a transition year where some of their prominent offensive guys have spent a decent chunk in the NHL (Dzingel, Prince, Puempel, Paul, Claesson... also the trading of Lindberg) while guys like White, Perron, Chlapik, Gagne and Englund have yet to arrive in Bingo (still in junior/Europe).

Given his age though I would say he probably doesn't have much time left to become an NHL goaltender, I would say one more year of development and if he hasn't shown improvement then I suspect the organization will cut ties.

It's funny. The Moose are a bottom feeder team with the worst shots against and goals for in the league, yet both Comrie and Hellebuyck are light years ahead in terms of SV%. It's interesting how stuff like that happens.

By all indications he's been very hot and cold. Luke Richardson (Bingo coach) was describing his play ont he radio, and said he's been better than the numbers suggest. That being said, he's had a few games that were real stinkers. I don't think he's lived up to the hype, but I still ahve hope that he can become an NHLer one day.
