So many angry posters.

Why would the Oilers want a guy that lets in soft goals in important games?

And as for "all the help we can get".. I would rather the Oilers get a veteran starter than be tempted to start a rookie college free agent.

Remember Justin Schultz the Norris winner, yah..

Quote me in the future if you want but this guy will be lucky to be an NHL back up.

I'm confused. You rather Oilers sign a veteran starter instead of O'Connor to join OKC? Why?

Here's what happened tonight to tie it 3-3 in the third:

...and in the previous game, this third period gaffe brought UND back into the game but BU held on:

Thanks, that really sucks, it could well be mental or just bad luck. Either way I'd take a chance on him. Worst case scenario he's an AHL back-up.

We need a veteran goalie for the big club, that said I'd still love to add a solid goalie prospect to push Brossoit on the farm. Goalie depth has been a huge weakness for us for many years.

Enough of this horse **** that all NCAA players suck. There are a lot of damn good hockey players that have gone the NCAA route. I didn't even see what happened tonight but 1 play does not define a player, he's highly touted for a reason, even if he doesn't end up anything of note it's still a free prospect that you get.

Whatever. Not buying the kool-aid this time sorry.

I am allowed to have my opinions. And I don't think all NCAA players suck obviously, but I am not buying into him as a solid free agent.

You say free player, I say contract spot. The Oilers need a veteran goalie and if given the chance they will offer this kid playing time like they did with Schultz.

If they sign him, ok. But they won't be patient with him, that is what I am afraid of.

Goalies are finnicky. If the Avs didn't already have Pickard/Will/Martin, I'd like O'Connor to come to Colorado. Under Allaire who knows what happens.

if you watched him this year, it wasn't rare for him to give a soft goal. and he gave up one comical goal each step of the way in the tournament. So yes, I know he gave up quite a few when the team bailed him out. I don't think he has the mental toughness for the next level. He seemed to lose his nerve more than a few times this year.

really?? I had no idea so I apologize about that, considering he is the highest touted prospect I assume he would be good

Brossoit has been the starter in OKC and has been outstanding. I am all for competition but I doubt O'Connor would agree to being an AHL back up.

The Oilers need a veteran goalie, not their farm team.

Yes...did you do know teams are trying to sign college free agents like O'Connor as prospects to develop, not immediate NHL players? So why would you not want him in OKC pushing Brossoit?

EDIT: Uh, yeah he would ... we're talking senior (or junior X2 edit) college free agents, not sophomores looking to get into the quick NHL route.

I hope he signs with the Oilers so Gillies can beat him again

Do you by chance know what development is? Matt has been technically sound all season.

He wasn't even the highest touted goalie prospect in the championship game...

Hell, he was only the 4th best goalie in the frozen four

soft goals in important games?? he is in the national championship for godsake, how many softies do you think the guy lets up. Judging the guy based on one game is a great idea mate, attitude like that the oilers wont have important games to play anyway.

Well, he has let up 3 incredibly soft goals in the tournament so it's not exclusive to one game. His glovehand appears to be a weak point.

He does seem good technically, is athletic and has good size but I'm sure you can understand the concerns about soft goals from fans of the team that is one of the frontrunners to sign him.

I'm sure there is worry but I really don't see how any fan of any NHL team can be picky. You are probably offering a max ELC 2way contract and a roster spot on your farm team. That is about it for a 6-6 23-year old goaltender with good stats on a top college team. No draft picks included.

Development? What is that? I am an Oil fan and haven't seen that before.

Is that where you promise highly sought after college free agents playing time as a recruitment tool?

You can condescend all you want. The Oilers don't exactly have the strongest track record for goalie development. Would you seriously blame me if I was sceptical about signing O'Connor?

Also.. O'Connor does have a history of soft goals. Others have seen this also.

Don't get me wrong, I still want the Oilers to sign O'Connor because he seems like a talented goalie and he's like a free draft pick. I'm just saying that I understand why his play in the tournament would turn off some people.

How a goalie plays in big games is an important factor in determining future success. However, He wouldn't play any big games in Edmonton anyway so shouldn't be any concern there.

Not at all, just the way you put it sounded like you thought he was a bad goalie, my apologies.

Yes by looking at a "highlight" reel shown during the National Championship game after he let in that goal, not by actually watching through those full games.

Yeah, definitely concerned about his decision making.

Undrafted since 2010 and throwing pucks into his own net. May have to pass on this one.

The Oilers are still smarting from the last overrated "can't miss" NCAA guy.

This is why NCAA hockey isnt takin too seriously. Just embarrassing in a national championship game.
Lol. Clearly the NHL takes it seriously as the percentage of players coming from college has gone up for like ten years. This kid that just had the worst moment of his hockey career is being sought by a bunch of teams. I'll take your opinion over the NHL staffs, though.
