I think giving Connor time in the big leagues automatically will be detrimental for his career, especially if that team is the Oilers or the Sabres. I mean will playing behind bad defenses really allow him to be able to develop properly?

He needs to spend time in the ahl no matter which team he signs for imo.

I don't think playing one game to burn a year is going to affect his career negatively.

He literally will not play more than 3 games

Hurting his development? Give me a break.

I really wish people would share this definitive source regarding prospect development, I feel as though I'm missing out.

Seriously, we have no idea if this kid is NHL ready or not, and we won't until we see him tested at the NHL pace against NHL players. Why don't we wait and see before we determine he's AHL bound? This isn't an 18 year old kid from the CHL being thrown to the wolves, its a 23 year old with a college education. The maturity, mental toughness, and confidence aren't fragile like that of a freshly drafted prospect. This kid has already experienced being passed over multiple times during his draft eligibility. He's either good enough right now, or he isn't, but I'd rather let his play decide than follow some magic formula for AHL seasoning.

Matt, if you are reading this..

Please sign with a different team.

Sincerely,

An Oil fan.

You can teach that. I would still love to sign Matt. He's excellent technically, and handling the puck is his only big flaw.

Ugly, ugly tying goal. In the broadcast they highlighted other moments of his like that. For the NCAA watchers, is this a common thing with him? I know he's not signing with the Avs so I don't care too much about him, however he is an intriguing prospect. All goalies have their mistakes and if the broadcast is right, it might be a legitimate question, does O'Connor breakdown in high pressure games/moments?

So many angry posters.

Why would the Oilers want a guy that lets in soft goals in important games?

And as for "all the help we can get".. I would rather the Oilers get a veteran starter than be tempted to start a rookie college free agent.

Remember Justin Schultz the Norris winner, yah..

Quote me in the future if you want but this guy will be lucky to be an NHL back up.

O'Connor should sign in Van. He'll be the next messiah for his entire career with the organization up until he's the designated starting goalie.

Enough of this horse **** that all NCAA players suck. There are a lot of damn good hockey players that have gone the NCAA route. I didn't even see what happened tonight but 1 play does not define a player, he's highly touted for a reason, even if he doesn't end up anything of note it's still a free prospect that you get.

soft goals in important games?? he is in the national championship for godsake, how many softies do you think the guy lets up. Judging the guy based on one game is a great idea mate, attitude like that the oilers wont have important games to play anyway.

Yes, it's a common thing with him. The hype began this season because BU had a terrific season up until tonight. He was inconsistent the previous two seasons. The success of this BU season is largely due to the team in front of him. My friend is a long time BU alumn and called him a question mark coming into the tournament, and well... you know the rest.

Here's what happened tonight to tie it 3-3 in the third:

...and in the previous game, this third period gaffe brought UND back into the game but BU held on:

if you watched him this year, it wasn't rare for him to give a soft goal. and he gave up one comical goal each step of the way in the tournament. So yes, I know he gave up quite a few when the team bailed him out. I don't think he has the mental toughness for the next level. He seemed to lose his nerve more than a few times this year.
