I don't think they signed Reaves to bury him.

The new GM has made signings to put us over the cap, he needs to fix it, we weren't over the cap before he made signings.

I see the Marleau trade brought up a lot as Dubas being at fault, this is the same situation.

The difference being that we can buy him out and still be under the cap (it doesn't matter if we didn't sign him to bury him we absolutely can, so we're not going to be pressured ton give up a number one pick, and that we didn't torch our cap space on one player.

Additionally if Dubas didn't reactivate Murray to end the season we could still technically have him on LTIR for the off season if we found medical issues.

Because of another genius move by him that is not an option

Well signing someone who shouldn't be on the opening roster to a 1.35 million dollar contract is not great.

Dubas signed Timmins to 1.1 he then didn't play for 3 months

We can't just put people on LTIR if they aren't injured...

He was signed for this year, not last.

Brad is having a great first offseason, all things considered.

I mean he really hasn't done anything. Dubas did this offseason a bunch of times. Team ultimately is the same on forward and arguably weaker on D with Gio declining and maybe Brodie.

I've seen people say we can't LTIR Murray... where does it say this? It's been done many times.

Maybe we don't get the full benefit or something, but we can definitely put him on LTIR if he is injured.

If we buyout Murray and run 20 players, we are over by like 80k. That Reaves contract already sucks.
Does that include Lafferty? If so, you could trade him / send him down to the Marlies and replace him with an $800K player. Pretty sure Treliving has a plan.

I got to imagine Samsonov is disappointed with the number.

I don’t see why the Leafs wouldn’t go 1 year at 3.55M.

Who was that dumb goalie analyst who said the price starts with a 4 because UFA goalies make more?

I am sure they have a plan, but Lafferty is a useful player, I'd rather send Reaves down who is useless.

Lafferty would 100% get claimed.

It included trading Timmins too.

To suggest the team is the same at forward is absurd. Additions of Bertuzzi and Domi have really strengthened our top 9.

I agree Lafferty would get claimed. Wonder if you could get a 4th or 5th for him, if it came down to that. Still some cards to be played this summer. Brodie, Nylander, Jarnkrok?

He will be in the opening lineup
We needed some players with character and snarl .
This guy hurts players when he hits you
The next time one of our players gets manhandled , maybe we won't stand around and do nothing.
I for one am very glad we picked him up

We won't be a boring team anymore with
Bert domi and reeves

Yes, watch video of his greatest hits. When he lights guys up, it is very impressive. I hope he has our first game with Florida circled on his calendar.

So far so good.

Things are slowly turning around. So this is what winning the off-ice battles looks like.

Late this afternoon, an arbitrator awarded Leafs goaltender Ilya Samsonov a 1-year contract worth $3.55M. The award is $1.35M less than what Samsonov had asked for during filing ($4.9M) and just over $1M more than the Leafs filed for ($2.4M).

This middle ground was $3.65M so an award at $3.55M is actually a small win for the Leafs in the sense that the arbitrator gave them the winning edge of a middle ground decision.

Aren't you the guy who says defense wins championships?

Every player we signed is bad defensively... it is crazy that you think this is a good offseason.

For the record, I think he's done well and has made mostly good signings, but it's funny to watch you contradict yourself all the time.

Treliving did well by holding his ground and not caving. The arbitration result is a fair one given Samsonov's numbers but I like the idea that we get to see him for another year to determine if he should be given longer term at more dollars.

I agree that Reaves will be in the opening lineup. He will bring something we don't have and wasn't provided by Simmonds or Clifford. When Reaves hits, he hurts. When he punches he hurts. I have to believe there will be a certain amount of deterrent. We've been too soft for too long. Too often I watched games and wanted someone to hit somebody, anybody. People are going to love this guy.

I believe the rule is you can't have him on off season LTIR if he's on the roster to end the previous season so you need to wait until the season begins but I could be mistaken

I mean we're significantly deeper on forward right now (willy dependent) and actually have a 1 and 2 LW guy.

I do wish we would change the D up a bit but will be hard to do

I know Klingberg has the potential to be a disaster in his own end, but he does bring something we were lacking from our defence. Our problem in the playoffs hasn't been defence, it's offence and goaltending. We haven't produced enough offence and part of the problem was puck movement. I'm glad Treliving has tried to bring more offence cause the players Dubas brought in to begin last season brought little to the table.
