Pronman thinks he's the fifth best goalie prospect. Apparently being the KHL Goalie of the Year is worth less than the WHL Goalie of the Year.

:dunno:

You can argue who is the best from the Russian trio, but to say Hart is better than Shesty? ESPN Pls...

He's russian. That's the whole point of those people even of they would not admit it. KHL players are always underrated unless some justified or unjustified the-next-Panarin-hype hits.

Just read some Hlinka Memorial aftermath and had a good chuckle at how north american analysts try to pump the tires of north american prospects.

I thought that he was absolutely amazing that game. Rock solid. Very nice lateral movement to stop a cross ice pass into one timer, too.

@NYRStatsInfo
In his last 40 KHL regular season appearances, Shesterkin has posted a 32-4-1 record, along with a 1.60 GAA, a .939 SV%, and 9 SO. #NYR

I think he's the best goalie not playing in the NHL.

Two more seasons, and then he can play for the Rangers, as long as he doesn't renew his contract. I think he'll take the starting spot right away, he probably could take it from Hank this season, who hasn't done too well of late, but he can't yet join the team due to his contract with Saint Petersburg, so maybe in two years he can go straight into being a very good NHL goalie. He'll be 23/24 during the 2019-2020 season.

IMHO that is Alexander Salak. Shestyorkin is almost up there tho.

That's definitely debatable but I wouldn't say that just yet. Best goalie prospect though imo, it's close between him and Samsonov but I'd keep Shesty and I'm sure Caps fans would keep Samsonov. Can't wait for all three S russian goalie in the same division soon

It is amazing how Samsonov's agenda is being pushed in NA, but not Sorokin's.

It is really close between Sorokin and Shestyorkin neither of the two being clearly ahead(while Sorokin is favored by the NT staff, while Shestyorkin actually plays on the NT coach's team). Samsonov has way more to prove, while he is obviously younger while... I don't know how to put another while in my post:)

Agree about Samsonov. He's the bigger goalie who might have "more potential", but he's not as far along as Shestyorkin or Sorokin. So if we are talking about who's the best now between those three, its between Shestyorkin and Sorokin.

As for those two, I'd say that Sorokin is favored due to having an extra year of KHL experience and an extra season on the national team, including games at the World Championships the last two seasons. Last season, Shestyorkin was better in the KHL and for Russia than Sorokin, although Sorokin was also good. I would not regard what Znarok decides, he's the same guy who thought Koskinen was a better choice to start the playoffs than Shestyorkin, even though Shestyorkin was much better in the regular season, he claimed that he went with Koskinen due to experience, so I don't know why this decision would be any different, although I assume its close enough between Sorokin and Shestyorkin that if Sorokin slips up, there won't be a long leash.

Maybe it's just me but imo Sorokin is a very very slight step below Shesty and Samsonov. Although it wouldn't surprise me one bit if he ends up the best of the 3

Yeah, its debatable, I realize that.

I'm not sure there's an obvious candidate though, so I'll take the goalie who is a prospect for our team. :)

What makes you think so? He is carrying one of the KHL's top teams with more workload than Shestyorkin. Samsonov is a backup ffs!

Shesty faced more shots per game than Sorokin this year and had better numbers, Sorokin's team also had more wins last year with the same amount of point as Shesty's SKA. Also, simply eye test you can see who's ahead, I think Shesty has more potential due to his flexibility and athleticism. Both will be very good. Samsonov is mostly potential and I like his potential more than Sorokin's

Had someone tell me that Shesterkin faces the easier teams compared to Kiskonen. Any truth to this?

Koskinen? If he does, its certainly not obvious.

They usually do a rotation that has some actual logic to it, its not Koskinen gets 4 games, Shestyorkin 2, Koskinen 3, Shestyorkin 5, Koskinen 9, Shestyorkin 7, etc.

Shestyorkin is the better goalie, but the goalie coach likes Koskinen's "experience" so he played most of the playoffs last season.

yup, if he does get worse teams then I don't think it's intentional, they just rotate. Shesty is definitely better

Can't be anything but hopeful with this kid as a Ranger fan.

They may have the worst system in the League, but they have one or two very promising players at each position.

Wish I could watch this kid more.

Anyway, with some Russians in the picture now, it looks like his chances of coming over in 2 years are pretty good.
