Speculation: Future Roster/Trade Discussion

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
I think we overpaid TBH - Mackie (1st plus 2nd) plus 9OA should have been enough for two years of Brady. I think that extra 1st in 2029 was a bonus
i feel the same, we have absolutely nothing to get stuff at the TDL or in the future, im all for win now but i think was too much especially considering were completely lacking in goalie or have to rely on old bob or some mediocre ufas

Agreed. We needed to keep some chips in reserve for the next 2 or so years while we go for it but instead, it feels like we've spent them all.

Repeat to myself: In Zito we trust. In Zito we trust. In Zito we trust. In Zito we trust. In Zito we trust. In Zito we trust. In Zito we trust. In Zito we trust. In Zito we trust. In Zito we trust. In Zito we trust. In Zito we trust. In Zito we trust. In Zito we trust. In Zito we trust. In Zito we trust. In Zito we trust. In Zito we trust. In Zito we trust. In Zito we trust. In Zito we trust. Brady's still not worth 3 firsts and a second...

One thing I noticed is Zito clearly prioritising strengthening the team with forwards. Most of the time when can make a big move, he is adding another forward. Jones was the only other player (a defenseman) brought by big trade. And almost all of the forwards are actually wingers (Bennett seems the only exception). When he had an assets and cap space in 2021, he added Sam Reinhart. Next year, he was not afraid to add 1st pair D-man Weegar in a deal for M Tkachuk. In 2024, the biggest deadline addition was Tarasenko. Then he added Marchand. And now Brady Tkachuk. He also extended Reinhart, Verhaeghe, Bennett, Marchand, while Montour and Gudas were let go as a cap casualties, with Mikkola cheaply replacing the latter. OEL, Schmidt (both succesfully), Petry (unsuccesfully) were a clear 1-year reclamation projects, and the first two got solid contracts elsewhere afterwards. His approach for defensive side of the roster has mostly been more reserved and cost-controlled. Same with goalies. There was a lot of backups for Bob in Zito era: Driedger, young Spencer Knight, Lyon, Stolarz, Vanecek, Tarasov. Zito didn't sign them long term, allowing Bob to play his full conctract as an undisputed starter.

Sometimes it seems as if Zito considering wingers as the most important position in the game, which completely opposes conventional wisdom.
