NHL Entry Draft Future Draft Watch

What about Cole Reschny? Centre , Victoria WHL, going to UND this fall.

92 points in 62 games. 25 points in 11 playoff games. 5'11 183 lbs. Born in April. From Saskatchewan.

Other players I like... Kindel, Fiddler.

I'm having a hard time coming around on Reschny. I worry he's a guy who lacks that one or two special traits that will allow his offensive game to translate. Obviously he's smart and skilled, but I don't see a special level of smarts or skill. I see a guy whose game works at junior pace, but I worry he will struggle to produce as the game gets quicker and the opponents get bigger and faster.

I am a fair bit higher on Kindel, who in my opinion separates himself with the way he processes the game and creates offence. I like the compete, I think the skating will be fine, and I love the way he elevated his game in the playoffs. But what makes me a believer in him - enough to bet on at 21 - is that I think he's a special thinker of the game. He creates so much for himself and others from the way he reads the play, and that kind of intelligence translates to the NHL level. These are not direct comparisons, but guys like Mark Stone and Claude Giroux have thrived in the NHL, despite lacking ideal physical tools, because they are just that much smarter than the average player. That's the bet with Kindel.

Some interesting measurements:

- Jackson Smith is now 6'4, was listed at 6'3 previously
- Malcolm Spence was listed at 6'2, but he's not even 6'1
- Jack Nesbitt is now 6'4.5 and probably ends up being 6'5 or taller, still needs to put on weight at only 186lbs
- Vaclav Nestrasil is in the same boat as Nesbitt being 6'5.5 but only 185lbs, not close to physically developed yet
- Eklund hasn't grown at all or put on weight, wouldn't surprise me if he falls on draft day
- Carter Amico is a specimen at 6'5.5 and 232lbs
- Will Horcoff has grown to 6'4.75 and also put on 20lbs of weight, was listed at 181lbs and is now 203lbs

Maybe I missed something but has it been determined yet that we're keeping our pick?

Yes they are keeping it and will select this Right Winger

Wheeler’s latest mock has us taking Spence

Lakovic is the Sens' type, but he'll be long gone before they're up. I could see them liking Simon Wang as well, but this is a little too early (if they were to move back, and I think they're open to it, I could see him being a target in a trade-down). If they stand pat, two players in this range that make sense are Spence and Nesbitt. Both have the competitive spirit and athletic builds they've prioritized in the past, but Spence has more pace and has done it with more consistency and in straight lines. He could be an up-and-down-the-lineup winger for them who really fits their culture.

I’ve heard that Carbonneau is a guy they would considerer close to best case scenario if he were still there

And have heard that Desjardins is a guy some teams like a lot more than his public ranking (not the Sens, just in general). Some team is likely to take him as an overager in the 4th+ round.
