Interesting article. I can't stand the guys from Carolina. They mis-pronounce way too many players names (I think they call the Rangers coach John Tortella or something). To each his/her own I guess...

Exactly! This is an opinion piece, design to stir conversation. There is certainly no right or wrong, it's quite a matter of personal preference. Myself, I prefer to watch the games with the sound off.

Pittsburgh's guys deserve nothing more than that #30 ranking. Possibly the worst commentary duo in history.

Now that's just weird.

Sometimes I wish the commentators would take a cue from baseball and just let the sounds of the crowd and game be heard.

Then why all this fuss (not necessarily from you) about the friggin TV broadcast?

I think it's because if we can't be excellent on the ice, we should at least try to be excellent on the airwaves (this comment applies way more to television than radio)

Yep to the bolded. John Forslund's one of the better PBP guys in the game in my book.

How many people here actually believe this?

Apparently you've never heard anything Bill Davidge has had to say beyond describing every goal as a "goal-scorer's goal" and suggesting "that's as good as it gets" (which admittedly annoys me too). He frequently has many things to say about the team in between goal calls, and many, many times it has been, shall we say, less than complimentary. He's (rightfully) accused the team at times of sloppiness, laziness, and generally poor play at many, many times - particularly during third periods.

If you consider that to be "blowing smoke up our *****", I dread what you would think of as being "objective".

And I prefer WINNING. Nothing is more entertaining than watching your team win.

And exactly what does that have to do with anything I said?

Hint: Nothing. Not. One. Damn. Thing. The broadcast quality does not exclusively sink or swim based on the team quality.

You're not kvetching at the broadcast quality at all. You're kvetching about team performance again and want the broadcast to validate your anger by expressing it as vociferously as you do. I say **** that noise. Kvetch on your own time, and let the broadcasters do their job like professionals instead of like jilted angry ex-lovers.

jebus **** do I just want to reach through the screen and slap some people silly sometimes.

Seriously? I love the radio call.

Likewise. It's literally directly responsible for my being a hockey fan. And while there are some posters who would resent it for that very reason, I wouldn't suspect DSL to be one of 'em. :D

My issues with the radio broadcast are well-documented. People have agreed and disagreed. I'm fine with that even if I don't get it.

I'm going to assume that the reason(s) both of you like the radio call is not because of its ability to provide an accurate description of the action taking place on the ice. I'm also going to assume you also like overuse of non-descriptive words and catch phrases that sound like they were made up by that "boom goes the dynamite" kid.

The best part of the radio broadcast is the postgame wrapup - that's the only time you find out what actually happened on the ice! The enthusiasm is great, but I'd prefer more accurate descriptions.

can't believe how much love natalie is getting in this thread. I thought she was awful, ignorant, annoying, and unattractive. I'm sure she's a nice lady. But she's not cut out to be the CBJ in-arena reporter.

We're not allowed to criticize her because she's a lady.

Tough crowd.

I'm translating this as "I don't find her attractive, so she annoys me. Anything coming out her mouth is just annoys me that much further.". She is anything but ignorant. She certainly isn't awful. If you think she is, you haven't noticed the long line of garbage we've thrown out there.

Is she great? No. But she's far better than you are giving her credit for. At least I don't need to see or hear Raffi 2 anymore.

nevermind...shouldn't have been an ass in the first place...

i'm in the clear minority around here so I'll retract my opinion and see what season two brings. Jim Day was better...John Michael...not so much.
