I really like BD outside of the booth. In various times talking to the man, or listening to him talk, it's clear he understands hockey rather well. Unfortunately, none, or very little, of this translates to the broadcast.
For that matter, Rimer is a nice enough guy, and has given a lot to this organization over the years.
I guess I'm just ready to move on to a more sophisticated broadcast. One that explains what we're seeing without a need to describe every move on the ice. Analysis of game objectives without reciting canned phrases that don't mean anything. Analysis of the good and bad at a deeper level than "it doesn't get any better than that" or "he has to do better"
Hearing Davidge, it's almost like he's being held back, honestly. The guy is not the dork he appears to be when the mic is turned on.
Matthews and McGelligott (sp?) are both fine enough. Matthews is actually a blast to listen to...whether or not he's really describing everyhting in perfect detail on radio is secondary to me. I like the way he does it. McGelligott is knowledgeable and doesn't seem overly afraid of calling guys out.
Having GCL really exacerbates the TV issue for me. I love the San Jose guys, as well as Vancouver and Philly. They're homers, like all of them, but they are simply at another level when it comes to quality of the broadcast.
