On the Marek show this morning.

Friedman was discussing about how he wonders if there are GMs out there that might be peeved at Briere for trying to trade Carter Hart this off-season. He was speculating that this might be viewed as bad business and dealing in bad faith if Philly knew the magnitude of Hart's involvement in the alleged crime.

If you recall there were plenty of reports and speculation that Hart was available for trade this off-season and fall...It went so far as Hart unfollowed the Flyers in his Social Media accounts.

This isnt a good look on Briere nor is it good business practice to alienate the other GMs that youll need to make deals with in the future.

Only if Briere had prior knowledge and also if the NHL investigation had this knowledge one would think a memo to the 5 GMs would have gone out right?

That being said there was no trade so it's a big nothing burger.

I mean if we’re gonna give the Flames the benefit of a doubt for “not knowing” what Dube’s absence was about literally a week ago, I’m not sure how you can criticize the Flyers for something 6 months ago.

Frankly I think everyone has known for quite a while.

If other GM's weren't aware of Hart being potentially involved they're idiots.

I don't know man, usally open secrets tend to get out to the media pretty fast and it took a while for names to named.

Did Nashville know about Cal Foote when they made the Jeannot trade? I only ask because if they did, then at least some GMs knew names.

It’s possible that they found out after they acquired him. It would explain letting them walk as an RFA after just acquiring months before.

Anyone of the 23 players on that 2018 team you’d need to do your homework on to get a sense of their involvement. If they didn’t come out with a statement that they were not involved you have to question the remaining ones who did not issue a statement.

Or you just steer clear of all of them til the investigation is completed.

I remember reading over the summer that Hart being on that Hockey Canada team was a big reason as to why there was reluctance from other teams to trade for him. I would find it hard to believe other GM’s were totally in the dark about this outcome being a possibility. Would Briere know a ton outside of what Hart and his representation told him? I’m not sure.

Now if Briere knew the full extent of it and lied to other teams about it to facilitate a trade? That’s a different story.

That's such a weird statement for Friedmam to make, even for a speculation. You'd think there to be at least some truth to it.

This is Friedman stirring up controversy, as he is wont to do. Especially when he says “I wonder,” which is his code for “I haven’t actually heard anybody say this, but it makes for juicy discussion.”

Every other GM with whom Briere would have spoken would have had just as much knowledge of Hart’s involvement as Briere did. Heck, all of us on HF were aware that it was possible Hart would ultimately be implicated. So any trade that ultimately would have been made would have taken into account the risk that Hart would eventually be implicated and the price would have reflected that. Or perhaps even have been contingent on a Police report clearing Hart’s name.

I thought some other NHL names were involved last summer and they were not among the 5 that were arrested. I think the implication is Briere knew more than what the whisper network reported, and I could see NHL GMs being peeved at the attempt to move Hart.

Seriously. I knew there was a high likelihood in 2022 when a lawyer representing him released a vague statement and he never released his own statement outright denying involvement.

Every GM Briere talked to was made aware of this. THAT'S WHY HE WASN'T TRADED TO BEGIN WITH.
