Yes, we'll disagree.

There was not a glimpse of this "speed" in an NHL game. The game moves faster in the NHL than the AHL... will he?

It seems I've found the 2016-2017 mancrush of the year.

I like the player. He has a lot of proving to do before he can skate 12 minutes in the NHL on a regular basis. If he can't do that after 82 games, I can't imagine us protecting him over some of the others on our roster.

Straight ahead speed and acceleration are easy to observe - it's not something he has to prove this year, because he's done it. He's fast. Can he handle the pace of the NHL? I'm more curious how many D-men can handle his pace. Okay, that video doesn't show speed, but I'm very comfortable returning to this topic in, let's say, November or December. Then you won't have to take my word for it.

How does Andrighetto + Emelin sound? What pick/prospect would need to be added
My policy on Emelin trades is simple: if you're not taking back David Clarkson, the answer is no.

If, perchance in the future, David Clarkson vanishes from the roster, then it will revert to what my policy was before he came here: the answer is always no.

We do not want, nor do we need, nor have we ever wanted, nor will we ever need, Alexei Emelin.

and the pendulum wildly swings the other direction...

We were the 27th best team last year.

I like Anderson.

You can try to delete it from your memory, but Boll was visible every shift his first four years in the NHL. Anderson has been practically invisible in the NHL in his call-ups. IMO Rychel was more visible. Not a diss on Anderson, it doesn't mean he won't be the better player. Doesn't mean he will either.

He needs significant development in his game to be a top 9 player in this NHL. The idea of protecting him based on his potential right now is silly to me. He has to show he can play. Does he skate well enough to play top 6 or defend on a shutdown line? Does he have the playmaking ability? Is he just a net front presence on the powerplay or a roster full of net front presences?

A big summer ahead for him.

Respectfully, did you watch any of the Calder Cup & Calder Cup final? just a net presence on the PP? Have a look at some of the box scores when he played 8-10 minutes a night for Torts- usually led his team in hits and/or the game in hits. I get it- he has a lot to prove- remember he was second in goal scoring on LEM behind Zaar with 13 less games played. 4th in overall points and played 18 games less than the leader Tynan only 7 points behind. Imagine if he played all 76 games. Oh yeah and 108 PIM. He has been under-rated his entire career but keeps winning. Would be foolish not to protect him at 22 years old. I wont even talk about his skating and speed that would be stupid to address. He blazing fast at 220lbs

Yes, he has played well in the AHL this year. No such glimpses in his chances here. Is it because of the level of competition? The pace of play? A lot to prove... Let's see after 82 games what he is before annoiting him one of the 8 most important forwards... Confusion?

Respectfully, you and I see different things with our glimpses.

No one is getting anointed or crowned anything. The expansion protection is almost a year from now. I'm just expected Anderson will play at a level that I would like him to be protected, and I suspect that you and many other posters might agree with me when the time comes.

For the record, while I respect your opinion and generally trust your judgment, I still think you're bat**** crazy on this one. But we'll see. :)

Hey, how about that Hartnell guy? Looks like he provided a list of teams he would move to...

Still think moving him would be a good option but not at any cost. I think he could be moved at the deadline for value if he's playing well.

Agreed, it depends on where the Jackets are come deadline. If we're in a playoff position or fighting for one (yes I said the P word) then I don't think he gets moved. No way Jarmo takes the chance of ****ing with the chemistry and missing out on the playoffs. However if we're on the outside looking in then I think he gets shipped to the highest bidder.

Hartnell will have another productive year and all we will hear at the TDL is "Well that contract is terrible, he's gonna drop off in production soon" same old, same old. Hopefully some of the garbage contracts given out in free agency will put Hartnell's into perspective.

But that term though...

Frankly, at this point, given Hartnell's proven ability to help with kids (see: Dano, Wennberg), I want him around for Bjorkstrand, Anderson, (eventually) PLD, and/or anyone else we bring up. The current crisis is over, and at this point I don't think it's worth it to trade him.

Absolutely. We can revisit at the trade deadline, but there's no point in moving him now.

We need to move him for Girardi/Staal to boost our defense and give Tortorella another friend

There was a crisis?

Veteran assistance is nice, but we don't need to be in a position where we might need to protect him. He was waiving his NMC to go to teams he wanted to, it's pretty reasonable to assume he actually wants to win and Vegas probably isn't that team.

Yeah, his production is fine. Yeah, he's a good teammate. No I don't see a compelling reason to keep him.

Look the reality is that we really didn't change anything from a team that earned the #3 overall pick. Nothing. Not a damn thing after we acquired Jones. We bought out a couple of bad contracts, so addition by subtraction theory.

Hopefully it was just an off year for everyone that sucked that had big contracts, because we're primed for another disaster if our best players aren't our best players again outside of Saad and to a lesser extent Hartnell. You really can't have around 25 million is sub-par play every season.

This in every way. Good post.
