There are plenty of spots open for young players. They just have to beat out a vet player. They aren't going to just hand a spot to a prospect.

I thought that was very fair too. That addresses two major NHL needs for Edmonton at the cost of a forward which is an area they have depth at. I'm not even gonna bother asking Oilers fans though. I can hear them complaining already.

They waived Asham and Powe 'cause they wanted to clear space. Since nobody took them, I guess they demote them to the minors next season.

Edmonton has been rumored to have something large back to when the playoffs were going on. They also said they were looking for another puck mover. Nurse is good, but not ready.

The Yakupov rumor won't die. Everyone has mentioned it. They mentioned it on TSN again today. With Ference and Gordon being signed, you can tell Edmonton wants to get more difficult to play against and start pushing to take that next step.

That's possible. But if Parros returned a 7th + bad prospect, so can Asham and Powe.

They may demote them, but I think they have a bigger deal in the works. Doesn't make sense to sign Moore and Pouliot when they just said they wanted to leave a couple of spots open for young players to battle over.

It's not like these guys are vets like Halpern or Powe. Guys who can be easily upgraded. The guys they have around wont get beat out by young players like Fast or Hrivik. Pouliot, Moore, Boyle, Pyatt, Dorsett. These guys are legit bottom 6 forwards.

Just $ wise I guess. Zucc is not a must is all I'm saying I suppose. With all the extra depth in bottom 6 and at d, I fear something bigger is happening and I'm just trying to rationalize a way out of a DZ trade

Well, there's no natural utility in allowing the kids to battle it out if there are better options available from what we have now and what we can get now. With Hagelin and Callahan out for the first bit, the kids will get their shot at competing for a spot among all the guys in that list above (Pou, Moore, Boyle, Pyatt, Dorse) and assuming at least 1 of the 3 already rangers are being moved, there's definitely spots and a decent time frame (training camp, preseason, first 2-3 weeks of Cally and Hags injuries) for the kids to battle it out for good.

It's just a youth mentality that's driving statements like that. The intent is there, but how it translates in reality is another thing.
