Could be a number of factors: take home pay, projected role, likelihood of remaining with the team.

I have a really hard time seeing the Rangers at least not matching this offer.

The difference in take home play on a 6M dollar contract for 3 years between CAR and NY is negligible. It's very roughly somewhere between 30-50k/year. Probably on the lower end if you consider the high escrow which I had not before.

Last time I checked we iced an entire line of players who weren't good enough to start for CAR.
