I think the thing is that any sources Brooks has these days with the Rangers seem to semi-official ones. He's more of a mouthpiece than someone with secret inside info, so you have to decide if you think he's saying something the Rangers would want out there or not

Even a broken clock is right twice a day

But the thing is--when is he wrong and when is he right? He's wrong when he poo-poos things we want to be true but then he's credible when he posts things that support we want to believe.

If people want to take the approach that Brooks is full of ****, then they need to stick with it.

It's nice to get Shattnekirk for 4-5 years and all, but who is playing Center now with Bonino off the market?

No mention of Boyle or Grigorehnko anywhere.

He said he doesn't think Shatty is interested because he'd have to leave millions on the table. So technically he was right if the Weekes tweet was true, hard to fathom a guy leaving 3x7 on the table to play for his favorite team

Playing near home and for the team you always rooted for, That's really hard to fathom?

How Is it backtracking if he reports what he hears? The shattenkirk camp is 15 minutes away from inking so they are confirming now.

Why does everything have to be nefarious around here?

Because he just blasted Weekes 30 minutes ago calling the report untrue. Dude is a ****ing hack.

Unless that by being 32 when going for his next deal he thinks he can get 6 years at 4 or 5 per, versus getting 7 years now and only getting a 2 year deal for less money when he's 35??

I dont know why you guys are on Larry. With all due respect Larry has been 100% correct so far.

1. The Rangers aren't/are interested in Shatty.

2. Shatty won't/will leave millions of dollars on the table to play for the Rangers.

Which is what I've believed all along. But, there is a particular poster who has been adamant that the Rangers will not sign Shattenkirk, and has used Brooks as his source.

 Well when you put it that was the dude's reporting is impeccable!

Yeah he's a puppet, not a reporter. As long as you keep that in mind when you read his stuff, then it all makes sense.

Seems very apparent that the Rangers and Shattenkirk's agent are using him to position themselves better.

I know a lot of people think it's stupid but I can respect a guy when money isn't everything. If Shattenkirk signs with the Rangers for a much lesser deal it's because he really wants to be here and FWIW even if he leaves $20 mil on the table he'll be very well off for the rest of his life anyway.

Now that Stepan's gone we're kind of missing a bald guy on our team anyway.

Exactly. Signing Shatter is just masking the giant hole we have down the middle. I guess the plan is to hope Zibanejad breaks out and can develop into a legit top line center.
