I'm so glad that we didn't extend him if he felt that way the whole time, but having to take about half of what you expected in free agency can be a bitter pill. Someone should remind Eric that the Hurricanes weren't the only team he played with last year.

Or...hello!...just sign a 1-year deal and re-prove yourself, dummy.

Eric Staal driving the bus now...

I can't blame him for taking a shot at Carolina. We never brought him a #1 winger to play with. The best attempt was Semin, and we saw how that went after 1 season. Extremely curious to see if he plays with Parise and how he does. In my mind Eric can still be a 25 goal 30 assist type of guy in the right situation.

The thing is, Staal was a good soldier while playing the system. I think the thing that really makes the Staal's salty, is that RF pulled the plug on the season for 2 2nd round picks and a prospect.

I wonder if Staal and Parise are still close. Can't play with brothers, so he'll play with friends. Also won't have to sleep in a Kenmore box down at the Amtrak switching yard if Zach lets Eric crash on the couch.

And now hearing that Cullen could be back in Minny by days end. He and Eric are also good friends.

I'm kinda disappointed in Eric taking those shots. I honestly did not expect that from him. Kinda lost some respect for the guy. Good luck trying to win a cup in Minny cause it ain't happening in your time.

Eric Staal is like Jordan Staal. Stick two plugs with him and he can buoy a line. He isn't a team player and doesn't make those around him better because he is a poor playmaker. He's best off with guys like Chad Larose on his line.

I'm not too mad at Staal. I think he had a tough time accepting how bad his season went and Carolina likely rescinding any offer they had tabled for him. Sometimes, anger at the front office can materialize as anger at the team. If there was any doubt about Carolina being ready to move on from the Staal era, those have been answered.

Anyone think Dan Boyle would be a good depth defensemen on the right side for just this year? He could bring some veteran leadership to our young d-core. Maybe teach Murphy a few things about being a small offensive defensemen. He had a nice season in New York last year, can still play.

Dan Boyle isn't going to delay his retirement to play for the Canes

Plug wasn't entirely pulled by RF, frigin Malone did the damage in practice on that one.

That combined with the hard drop in production from Versteeg and Staal at that point in the season really forced Ronnie's hand.

I am getting more and more curious on what Francis is going to do to reach just the cap floor. Rask isn't getting $10M per, so something has to give. And you can't always count on a trade to get you there.

Is it concerning anyone else that who is left, there is no mention of Carolina being interested. I mean there has literally been no players linked to us.

Pre-draft talk: "yeah, it makes sense to take BPA rather than drafting for position."
In-draft talk: "WHY DID THEY PICK A DEFENSEMAN?!"

Pre-FA talk: "yeah, it makes zero sense to be a part of the free agent frenzy."
In-FA talk: "WHY HAVE WE NOT SEEN ANYTHING YET?!"

Can't the Canes just sit below the Cap Floor for the offseason? There is no rush. Rask will likely push them above the floor, but if all else fails they could pay NJ for Savard's contract or something silly.
