But when he starts talking about "how close they were" last year, and how his teammates just needed to "give a little more", during a year where he was paid $9 million to put up 33 points, that's a guy that needs to shut the **** up.

When did he say this? Please provide a link.

Over beers! Not over a nice plate of grilled salmon, quinoa, and steamed broccoli. No wonder he's lost a step.

There's no way in hell Toews drinks beer.

.

Again, it's real simple. Eric had a lot of issues here, some due to the nature of the team, some due to his own shortcomings. If he simply commented on the nature of the team, I don't think many would have faulted him for it.
.

Im pretty sure that is all he commented on, + management not being a cap team.

Tarheel quoted it earlier in the topic:

"It's just a different market, Carolina. They're not a cap team. They're in a different time. They're going with youth, younger players, there were just a lot of different things. And missing the playoffs as many years as we had in a row, we were very close a couple of years, but in the cap world, and the way the game is now, you just need more. You need extra help. Sometimes it just didn't feel like they were able to do some of those things, and it made it difficult. It started to wear, and it was tough, and last year they had a lot of younger players that were taking steps, and then for me, I needed the opportunity to get back to the playoffs, and moved on. Now I'm here in this opportunity, and like I said, enjoying going to a team that's already very competitive, and expecting to be very competitive, and to be in that environment and be excited about it is one of those things that I'm looking forward to."

Again, Eric Staal saying they needed to provide "more" after having (by far) his worst season and getting paid $9 million to do so gives him absolutely zero room to talk.

And to talk about how close they were to the playoffs for a couple years when he spent the first two months of the 2011-2012 season doing everything possible (by way of doing as little as possible) to ensure that Maurice was fired gives him no room to talk there either.

For how much they paid him compared to his results, and how they accommodated him to the best of their ability, he should have had nothing but good things to say organization. Screw him.

You do realize he's talking about management not spending to the cap to bring in extra help, right? Not his teammates?

Who cares what he's talking about? The point is, he just shouldn't be talking at all. Thank you Powerade for all the money and the wonderful refreshment. Moving on. That's the crux of this debate, not picking apart the words and reading between the lines. There should be no words other than "I appreciate the way the organization treated me and my family, I wish things worked out better but they didn't. I'm looking forward to my new challenge."

Ok....BACK TO FREE AGENTS:

Are there any guys who are currently filed for arbitration who might have their rewards walked away from by their team?

I dont know the specifics on these, but one of the rangers, Hoffman, anyone else? (or not those I stated)?

Given the NYR's situation and his current salary, I'd guess Hayes of the three.

Yeah, 'cause defending Semin was so much more fun.
Ouch! Now that's going to leave a mark. ;)
