lol is there anyone left? Stepniak?

Stempniak is reported to be talking with NJ and likely re-signing. Outside of him, Purcell, and Boedker (maybe Pirri) there isn't really anyone worth looking at. As others have said, it would just push players out of slots that they are currently fine in without any real upgarde.

At what point does everyone start wishing we had just signed Staal? Later today or in a couple weeks?

For what he got on the free market?

Right now.

***********

ATM, our top 6 is Skinner, Rask, Lindholm, TT, PDG and Aho.... and as others have said, there is no one left that is significantly better to the point that it makes sense to pay them 4-5 times as more as PDG/Aho to take that spot.

Trade or bust.

I agree from a production standpoint but the guy has some 'tude problems. He honestly didn't sound like someone who would be happy coming back and playing 5th fiddle. Seems like he'd be kind of a **** about it. Which is essentially why Francis said they wouldn't bring him back to begin with.

Or he was upset that Francis wouldn't bring him back, and was just venting his frustration over that.

McGinn is the only one that really bugs me. If he was willing to go to Phoenix, he likely would've been willing to go to Carolina too. 3 years 10 million for a guy that has been really productive when you look at his scoring relative to his TOI.

There's still a few guys out there that could help, and more importantly, more that will likely be available by trade after the dust settles like we've all predicted. There will be more, most likely. Just not quite yet.

To me Staal has always been one of the mopiest players in the league. Now he is being whiny and mopey about his old team for no reason (edit: Obviously the reason is Francis didn't want to re-sign him but it was unnecessary). He couldn't have pulled a Wiz and cracked a nice joke while saying thank you to the fans that supported him for the past decade+?

Deuces Eric. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

He's a guy we can expose or trade down the road. Not terrible.

Edit: And hopefully have another productive year in between

Things get said when it comes down to business, if he acted frustrated it's only because he really cares. I'll never have any ill will for Estaalo, he had too much put on his shoulders from about 09 on and never complained about it once.

Less we forget, Staal put up 33 points last year, playing top line minutes and getting a lot of PP time. This is the same guy that was apparently allergic to October and November, really only showing some signs of life only after the team is well behind the eight ball.

We're better off without him, if only to have some shot at a decent Oct/Nov.

We got Stempniak? I like it. You can pencil in 15-20 goals and if we're not in the playoff chase somebody else will certainly take him at the deadline.

This team disappoints @FA every year. I get what y'all mean about not over extending the budget on a bad contract...understood, but THIS year we really needed that ONE top player to replace Estaal who could maybe put us in playoff mix/sniff at least, and once again... silence. I had hope this year, with JR gone and RF at the wheel, and seeing our obvious need to get THAT player that could propel this team and get fresh arses in the PNC. I'm a little sad at what possibilities are left to us now. :(

edit: I take it all back (well almost all), and I luv u, RF!... U2 Stemp!
