I propose this thread be split into two threads moving forward: one for the sharing of credible trade rumors and actual transactions. The other, for fantasy roster building.

Based on this off-season, it would be such a Gorton thing to do if he traded Nash for say, a 1st + prospect, and then turned around and traded a middle-tier prospect (say someone like Tambellini or Nieves) for Kovalchuk and signed him to a 3 year deal for a lesser cap hit. Rebuilding on the fly move? Absolutely.

Would be all over that, but still doesn't help at center.

just throwing this out there... is Shea Theodore the kind of LHD the Avs would be looking for, for Duchene?..

Hayes (they have centers, but none as good as Hayes), for Theodore and a 2nd round pick.

Theodore, 2nd rd pick, and another piece for Duchene?

just thinking out of the box.

If they turned down Hamonic + 1st +, there is zero chance Theodore + 2nd gets it done.

I wouldn't say we actually got better yet, until Gorton can find another 2C to push Hayes down, then the Rangers got better.. we'll see what he can do.

True, but I look at it this way: no matter who comes in to play 2C or 3C, this is still a really good offense. And is our Center problem equal to, better, or worse than our problems with D last year? I think we're better this season because the offense is still good in spite of a major hole, whereas the D last year was terrible and is now pretty good.

WOW. Tough loss for MTL.

They should have paid him. If a loser like Marleau is worth 6m per as a 38 y/o Rad should get that money when he is 30. Rads was over a PPG in the POs too.

What did MTL offer Rads? Why should he have taken that?

I wouldn't hate it.

It would have been the Sather thing to do to hand out 7 x 7 contracts to both Alzner and Shattenkirk. It is so nice to not have to worry about that.

Agreed, I used to dread UFA day

That sounds fantastic to me, but youd have to send NJ assets for Kovy. So it'd wash except for cap

I don't think those assets would be equal though. The Devils have a very limited market for Kovalchuk as far as where he will play. I think the net assets would be significant.

Say:

Nash + Nieves for Kovalchuk + SJ 1st '18 + SJ 3rd '19

Sakic allegedly turned down Hamonic + 1st for Duchene. Hamonic would be their 3RHD.

If Hamonic was a LHD the trade would have been done already.

Not really. With the absurd taxes they have in MTL likely would have cost them well into the 7 million range to keep Radulov. Can't do that when you have to overpay in other positions as well to keep players.

I am enjoying their inevitable downfall. I dislike them more than the Islanders.

Sure, but Talent wise .. that's a tough loss. He's good man.

Grigorenko signs in Russia.

A little surprised NYR haven't made any bottom 6 signings yet. Have to imagine at least 2 are forthcoming.

Even ignoring the center issue, Fast is going to be out at the start of season, and I'm not sure Puempel is who they think will make an ideal replacement.

So let me ask this question.. I know the Avs were brutal, but does anyone think Duchene is that 60 + point center anymore?... can he still be that?

That's what I thought they said on the main boards. :help:

The only thing I recall seeing were a few Colorado fans posting that it was debunked. There were no reliable sources saying that (at that time). I think it was more of them being embarrassed their GM is such an unbelievable dunce.

I could be wrong but I didn't see anything...

Oh. For ****s and giggles. Renaud Lavoie said on sirius this morning he thought the Alzner signing was one of the best of free agency. :biglaugh: I never realized he was such a shill for Habs management.

Have you seen the cap situation for 18-19 which does not include the $7.8M for Nash?

Then we should be going to get him IMO... He's a better version of Stepan, faster, better on draws, better possession, etc.

Duchene, Zibanejad as the 1/2 would make more more comfortable if the Rangers wanted to use Miller as the 3C...

Trade a Forward to get a LHD that the Avs like and make it happen.

I would call about Duchene but I really dont like his cap hit for what his production isnt. It would be a big gamble

Yeah, we would have to really believe he is that 60 + point player again.. I mean he is only 26 so its possible?...

Don't know where you got that Gorton said he spoke to Klein 10 days before the draft.

In the post-draft interview, all Gorton said was "we'll speak with him in a few days" or along those lines.

I think he may have said both.

Yea but he is only a year younger than Stepan and has been producing the same as Stepan for similar cap hits. However, Stepan is the more complete package in terms of versatility to play in all situations. Makes me think then why didnt we just keep Step if were gona consider Duchene

well Duchene + Anderssen + Deangelo + Shattenkirk money

for

Stepan + Forward we trade to get LHD for Duchene...

comes out as win for the Rangers doesn't it?

Is it me, or has the entire Metro gotten worse while the Rangers got better, with the possible exception of the Islanders?

Feels like all the teams that improved in the East were bottom feeders who aren't going to be competitive next season anyway. Toronto got better, and the Rangers did too. What other top teams actually improved?

NJ added a nice young kid.
