We don't need a center right now but we better be ready for the eventual ROR trade @ the deadline or next offseason.

Kadri and ROR down the middle is SCF calibre depending on their development.

Right now probably makes no sense but whenever there is an opportunity I wonder if Bozak would be bumped down to potentially the third line making that money

Haha that's what I was thinking, sign Kessel then trade Bozak and go all out for ROR, would never happen though

As much as clarkson may be overpaid, what this guy will bring to his hometown competing every night and finishing every check I love this deal!

Kadri had success with many people last year, and if the first line is JvR - TyFlow - kessel then imagine how our second line is with lupul - kadri - clarkson.....

That second line is a deadly offensive but also respectively defence line

Then that's leaves a great 3rd line with possibly Colborne- bollan. - kule

4th tough but competitive line is. Orr - jay - mclaren

I can assure you what he makes won't dictate where RC plays him.

As we saw this year with Grabo. What it might dictate is whether or not that player ends up remaining in long-term plans on Nonis' end. Also as we saw this year with Grabo.

I have a scary feeling that Kadri and Franson are gonna ask for big bucks, both coming off fantastic seasons. I hate to say it, sine I really like both players, but I think we should maximize on their talents, and try to hit a home run.

I would love to get Alex Pietrangilo on the Leafs badly, as I see him as a #1 defenceman we can build around for the next 10 years. We wont be getting him through offer sheet, as we don't have the space without a few moves to clear room.

So I propose

To Toronto- Alex Pietrangelo

- Finally get a great young defnceman to build around for the future. He is a legit #1 defenceman and is still really young and gonna get better.

To St. Louis- Nazem Kadri, Cody Franson and Nikolai Kulemin.
- Get a young 1st line center, a top 4 defenceman who can eat some of the minutes Petro would have had and was a top 10 scorer for defnceman and also run a powerplay and they get our best 2 way forward who is very underrated. St. Louis really needs a #1 center and Kadri is one the best young centers in the league. This would also allow them to make other moves up front to maybe get another star winger. I hate losing Kadri, but you have to give to get.

In order to make it work cap wise, we would have to move Phaneuf and Liles.

To Toronto- Paul Stastny and Steve Downie
- Get a potential 1st line center or 2nd line center depending on where Bozak plays, who plays great defensively and would fit into RC's system great. He would take Kadri's place centering one of the top 2 lines. Also get a great 3rd line winger who is really tough to play against and plays a great agitator role. Can also chip in with some offence as well.

To Colorado- Dion Phaneuf and JM Liles
- Get a great defenceman to pair with Johnson and help run the PP, as well as get a great mentor for the young defenceman coming up. Very underated and is a fan favorite in Colorado. This would shore up their defensive woes and make them a playoff team next year.

Then Sign Tom Gilbert or Paul Ranger to play a top 4 role for like 2.25 for a couple of years.

FORWARDS
James Van Riemsdyk ($4.250m) / Tyler Bozak ($4.200m) / Phil Kessel ($5.400m)
Joffrey Lupul ($5.250m) / Paul Stastny ($6.600m) / David Clarkson ($5.250m)
Jerry D'Amigo ($1.083m) / Dave Bolland ($3.375m) / Steve Downie ($2.650m)
Frazer McLaren ($0.700m) / Jay McClement ($1.500m) / Colton Orr ($0.925m)
Joe Colborne ($1.000m)

DEFENSEMEN
Carl Gunnarsson ($2.750m) / Alex Pietrangelo ($7.000m)
Jake Gardiner ($1.117m) / Tom Gilbert/Paul Ranger ($2.250m)
Morgan Rielly ($1.744m) / Mark Fraser ($0.750m)
T.J. Brennan ($0.600m)

GOALTENDERS
Jonathan Bernier ($2.900m)
James Reimer ($1.800m)

SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $65,593,333; BONUSES: $1,362,500
CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $69,167

Would have no REAL #1 center, but we all know we ain't getting one anytime soon, but we would have 3 centers with offence who ALL play a really good 2 way game, similar to Boston. Would have scorers in Kessel, Lupul, JVR, Playmakers in Bozak and Stastny and Great Agitators in Clarkson, Bolland, Downie and D'Amigo. It is a great all round mix of forwards.

Would have 3 potential studs on Defence for the future with Petro, Gardiner and Rielly. Which would be AWESOME IMO for the future. They may take some knocks this year, but next year they could be something very special.

OK, Blast away :) Cuz I know the thought of giving up on Kadri is gonna piss some people off.

I'd do both of those deals. But Blues ask for the moon for Petriangelo. Avs deal is reasonable I suppose but Av fans hate the notion of getting back Phaneuf and want Gardiner.

We cant afford his salary if we offersheet him. we only have like 10 million in cap room left to sign Kadri, Franson and Gunnarsson and fill out the roster. How do we fit in Petro without giving up some big tickets? It is impossible.

Subban hits FA next summer if MTL doesn't resign him

How is Reilly's shot and how's he in his own zone

Subban is still a restricted free agent and there is no way in hell Montreal doesn't sign him. He just won the Norris Trophy and they are thin on defence. We got no chance at signing him until he becomes a Unrestricted free agent which could be many years away

We are a worse team with that lineup. We also lose our long term #1C in kadri

I hate the notion of giving up Kadri, but honestly the kid has been great for a half of a season. He may continue to develop and be a #1 center for the next 15 years and be a top point producer, but it is not a 100% lock. I say capatalize on his really high value now. And if Petro is the big piece coming back, I say do it.

For all the cap space everyone was talking about before, we actually have very little. If our restricted free agents go to arbitration, we could be in some serious trouble.

If.............

Kadri asks for 4.0-5.0
Franson asks for 3.5-4.5
Gunnarsson ask for 3.0-4.0

Low end- 10.5
High end- 13.5

We are screwed. And if they went to Arbitration, those numbers aren't out of the realm of possibility. Considering the seasons they all just came off of and what lesser players just signed on the free agent market.

There has to be some more moves coming. Cuz we would still need to add 2 more players after those 3 to fill out the roster. At least another 1.5 million in cap space.

There is room and if we really want to make this simple then we trade liles for a pick/prospect and bang we have space to sign all our RFA's for whatever they're asking. We have NO cap problems here.

That's assuming someone can take on Liles's contract. I know he has some value out there, but IMO, unless u add something else to help entice a team to take on his contract, it is not as easy a move as most think.

It is similar to what people said about Grabovski. Oh, just trade him, and we are fine. Someone will take him for sure. But sometimes, there are just no takers as we found out with Grabo, and he is much more valuable to a team then Liles IMO

I agree with everything u said except the last sentence. I see Liles is more tradable than grabo is

Unless a a team is desperate for a defenceman, and way under the cap and can take on almost 4 million for a few more years, which limits the teams looking to trade for him, it is a tough deal. But I still think Grabovski is more valuable to a team than Liles is, due to age, talent and past production, since they both kind of had crap years last year.

Grabo's big problem was his contract. Like we all know. But teams are looking more for a top 6 center then a aging 4-6 defenceman on a big contract with multiple years attached.

maybe thats just my opinion

ROR? Couturier?

Why are people talkinf about adding a centre. Nonis signed Bozak longterm, and Kadri is obviously one of our main pieces going forward.

If we traded for ROR or Couturier, where would Bozak play? 3rd line? Let Bolland walk next offseason? In which case why did we trade for Bolland? I suppose he can play the wing. But i dont see it working from a cap perspective.

Nice to see another leafs fan look at our situation objectively.

World looks a little weird without the blue sun glasses on, eh?

I'm like you, I'm not overly confident that we can just "oh trade Liles" and receive no cap hit in return.

11m to nail down these 5 RFAs is gonna be interesting indeed and i do believe there is a level of risk involved here.

My gut is telling me 1 or 2 of these RFAs are on the way out.

Err, you don't think NHL ready players and their cap hits would have to go the other way?

Neither of those two would ever be moved for just pic/prospects.

With Brennan and Gardiner you have to assume both that Liles has a suitor somewhere in the league, and that one of Gunnarson or Franson are on the way out for a more rugged, hard-nosed defenseman.

I see a package of Colborne, Gunnarson/Franson and possibly Kulemin, Holzer, or Blacker being offered. What top-4 D are being offered for that price?

I know some posters are going to disagree heavily with this but I would love to try and pull the Schenn bros outta Philly. Now that Brayden has been pushed to the wing since Vinny has come in for the 2C position until Couts is ready I think we have a chance to get them.

Dion, Colborne, Blacker, 2nd - B. Schenn, L. Schenn
I'd even switch Colborne for Kulemin if you had too.
