Re the $ for remaining rfas-

Hayes with term- at least 5 mm
Brady with term- approaching 4mm
Vesey short term- probably around 2mm
Spooner- 1 yr (with or without arb) is probably around 4.

So I count $15mm there, leaving about 10mm in space for our spares and two kids to make the roster

If Vesey gets 2m, Gorton should be fired. There's no way he deserves more than Fast in any way. Even with the cap going up.

Settle down, we all love Fast and rag on Vesey, but Vesey has 33 goals over the past 2 years, Fast has 35 in his career - and yes, the cap has indeed gone up

Lose JT..

get Flippula, Komarov for 4 years and Matt Martin back..

ok then.

I love how they are saying that Barzal will replace Tavares. Let's just assume that is the case, and assume that Barzal will thrive while getting the tough match-ups, who is replacing Barzal? Somethings got to give.

I love Barzal, as a T-birds fan I want him to succeed, but I don't think it's a given Barzal will repeat his season when he plays against top lines.

1 year deal for Spooner could be perfect for NYR. He should put up points getting top PP time, and be ideal for a rental market in the spring.

You also have to make a decision on Zuccarello come the deadline. If he isn't dealt this offseason I imagine they'll use much of the playing year to determine if they think he has the longevity to deserve another long term contract.

I’m not really sure what there is to be skeptical of.

Even if we throw out the reports, the track record to this point would point to a more conservative approach to pursuing trades and sticking to the plan they’ve outlined.

If anything, I think we’d be more skeptical if suddenly they were cited as the favorites to land EK.

The thing is that EK isn’t just any player and that’s what makes this potentially different. In the face of that, the teams track record may not mean much. Sure, they’re likely looking to move Hayes, Spooner, Zuccarello, etc for futures. But if you have a chance to get a player of Karlsson’s stature, your plans can change. Gorton has said over and over that he won’t rule anything out.

My only stance on this is that I don’t want to trade picks and a bevy of high end prospects for Karlsson. The Rangers have other assets. The question I’m not really sure about is whether or not Ottawa is in future assets mode. They had an awful season last year, but they’re one year removed from the ECF and that didn’t happen just because of Karlsson, though of course he played a huge part. If they aren’t looking to tear it down right now, they would have interest in other assets of ours.

In these situations, until a beat writer names his source, I keep skepticism about anything they say. It’s not a cynical skepticism, just a skepticism.

Respectfully, that's a gross oversimplification, and perhaps the one and only metric in which Vesey's performance looks better than Fast's.

Just to let everyone know there were no hard feelings when the Maple Leafs signed his best player--Lou thanked Tavares for his service and then took the Maple Leafs biggest cap issue off their hands for gratis.

Not a fan of Lehner's. Probably better than Halak but.......

So far Lou's start on the island looks like shit to me.

It is a simplification, but a valid one nonetheless. Saying he doesn't deserve 2 million because Fast got 1.85 over 2 years doesn't merit much to me.

Horton represents a bigger cap issue, at least in the offseason, than Martin did.

These are Matt Cane's contract AAV projections for Vesey. The projections are generally pretty accurate.

1 year: $1,335,944
2 year: $1,684,815
3 year: $2,323,152
4 year: $2,859,739
