I could easily see this Karlsson thing dragging out into the first couple months of the season.
Drag it all the way to the trade deadline.

Dragging it to the deadline hurts Ottawa severely. No playoff contending team will want to take on Ryan’s contract for only 2-3 months of EK.Drag it all the way to the trade deadline.
You really think the Sens would accept that offer? And if so, why?
Sens don't need to move Ryan with EK. They can be separate deals.

This is the time to move EK if they are serious about dumping Ryan’s contract. Teams have more cap space now with their rosters not established
Sure but the Sens arent in a position to attach the assets to Ryan in a separate deal for the acquiring team to take him imo. The organization is going into a rebuild. They traded Hoffman. They are trading EK. Mcarthur is LTIR. Brassard traded at the deadline. Turris traded last year. Roster looks a lot different from two years ago. They cant afford to give up young assets.Sens don't need to move Ryan with EK. They can be separate deals.
Well this is a discussion board so discussing the nature of what is logical for Ottawa in this situation only makes sense, especially if we are involved. I dont know...lets just not discuss anything thenI don’t care if it screws Ottawa. I care what works best for the Rangers.
They don’t need to, but they’ve been trying to.
Yeah but judging by some of the proposals on here we are getting EK just about for free.
Spooner and garbage for Ryan and EK. That's a horrible deal for Ottawa.

EK is going with Ryan attached

I would agree with you on the latter, but Ottawa seems very desperate to move Ryan. I mean given the suggestions you have made, it has to make you curious as to why Ryan has to be moved. Is it a personal thing? Is he a bad guy? Are they worried about his body holding up? Something we dont know about his health? Are they really that desperate to move Ryan? They are rebuilding and won't spend anywhere near the cap. They are better off putting up with Ryan for couple years and then buying him out when the buyout isn't too severe.

Nice if Karlsson wants to play for us, his buddy Hank could persuade him to come here![]()
Would you make that deal if you were Ottawa? To get out of the awful Ryan contract.
Spooner, ADA, 1st, 2nd? Maybe one more piece in a prospect form?Would you make that deal if you were Ottawa?

Again, if you were GM of Ottawa, would you trade EK for that package, just to get out of the Ryan contract? Me thinks the answer is no. There isn't enough quality there even if we are absorbing Bobby Ryan.Spooner, ADA, 1st, 2nd? Maybe one more piece in a prospect form?
What would need to be added to take on that Ryan contract. The post above to you still applies.
