Everything with the Tavares situation strikes me as someone who never seriously considered the alternatives to the Islanders until recently.

Gorton has a plan that everyone can understand if their hearing is not blocked by bias, prejudice or agenda. So before bemoaning begins that he’s not doing anything, with this plan Gorton first needs to wait for the UFA forwards find new home, then find a trade partner for Zuke (and maybe Hayes) among those that missed out, and get more assets from the use of available cap space.

I’d be VERY shocked if the Rangers make any noticeable splash with UFAs at this early stage.
