I keep reading on Twitter that this is supposed to be a good day for Rangers fans. I don't feel good about the way this went down.

At all.

Tavares and Leafs fans deserve each other.
There is a long day and week ahead, teams that missed out will be calling. Hopefully we eat a contract with some good sweeteners and recoup more assets by trading Spooner and/or Names, then it will be perfect.

There’s nothing we could or SHOULD be doing today.

When the dust settles we should trade someone but the only thing we could’ve really done today is make things worse.

Be patient

As others have said, the average cap hit for any player on a NHL roster is well over $3m. The cap is no longer $60m. These contracts may seem high and like all UFA’s, they probably are, but this is the new norm

I am referring to the length of the deal not the amount of money. The Islanders do this all the time too. Cizikas/Clutterbuck for 5 years. Players like that should not be signed long term.

Lundqvist declines to be traded as the team is rebuilding and his career is near the end saying he loves New York and doesn’t ever wanna play anywhere else.

Tavares says LI is Home and he loves the Islanders. Then bolts for Toronto after not letting islanders trade him to get something out of him leaving.

I love Hank.

Apples and Pomegranates.

Kravtsov > Wahlboon

Why do you call him Wahlboon?? Is it because you think he’ll be a boon for the Isles org??

I thought it was a typo at first but I’ve seen you call him that like three times so now I need to understand the origins of this nickname

They're all replacement level players too. Moore rated out negatively for WAR and GAR. Isles bought way too much into how that 4th line of Martin-Cizikas-Clutterbuck performed and they paid through the nose for it.

If you're overpaying your depth and ignoring your top-end talent, you're doing it wrong.

He didn't do anything wrong at all. He literally signed in the first day of free agency. Look at other huge ticket FA's, almost none of them signed on the first day (Kovalchuk, B. Richards, Marian Hossa, etc.)

Islander fans are an embarrassment. Burning jersey's on Twitter, hating on him before he even left, why would you want to play in such a place. Moreover, he gave them an absolute steal of a contract for 5 years and they literally waited until 2 weeks before he was a free agent to make enormous moves to keep him here.

They are so far away from competing and have little possibility of being competitive in the next few years. And from what I understand, his wife is Canadian and continued to reside in Canada, that, if anything, should have been a major red flag.

Islander fans seem to think their franchise is up there with the storied Original 6. Besides the fact that they play in a small location (or as nomads more recently), their years of domination decades ago won't change the fact that since 1995 they have basically been run as a Mickey Mouse organization.

Did I miss something? Did he have a great year last year? That's a long deal for a journeyman D-Man.

Agreed. I'm all for overpaying for the flexibility of giving a shorter term deal. Makes little sense to give average players 4+ year deals...but at the end of the day someone is always willing to give the player the stability they are looking for.

I haven't cared about the Islanders in a long time. They just haven't been relevant. Their fans have always been like the jealous little brother. They rooted against us in every playoff series, celebrated when the Kings beat us, orgasmed at the first sign of the King "losing" it, railed against us for spending on free agents and even about silly things like having celebrities at MSG.

I'm not throwing a parade that they lost JT, but I don't feel bad for them either.

Then again, Hank didn't grow up in Toronto or have TML sheets on his bed when he was a kid.

Boston signing John Moore is weird. Don't they have Chara, Miller and Krug down the left already? Wonder if they have a deal in the works to trade someone for a forward.
