At this point dw has done nothing but lie anyway.

There will be no splash, no Tarasenko.

Some 4th liner will get pressed in to mclovins spot, and that's it.
No one expected much more honestly.

As of now, we are bubble team in my eyes. If anything, we could sell a lot on the deadline - NN, Tro, goalie, Bear (RFA), Cole, even Skjei, Leivo

Unless I'm missing something, when did Waddell ever mention any type of "splash"? The only thing I remember is him saying the team was targeting veteran goaltenders the day the Ned trade was made (which is exactly what the team ending up signing).

Waddell did say that they wanted to spend to the cap this season. The question is what will be their path to $81.5M? That's what we're debating.

You know--Waddell never clarified whether he wanted to spend to the cap floor or cap ceiling--maybe he's going the other way.

Massive, massive extension for Jake Gardiner.
Speaking of cap business, I'm still amazed that Tampa got out of the Johnson contract with only a very late 2nd sacrificed. When it comes to GMing around the cap, no group does it better than Tampa's. I don't complain anymore about those guys, and I simply just bow to greatness.

It puts a lie to all the stuff about GMs trying to screw each other over. The reality is they're too busy taking care of their own problems, and too concerned about getting iced out of the club, to really hold each other's feet to the fire.

I'd be shocked if Svech's bridge deal was much less than $7 million ACV. Looking at Barzal, Tkachuk, and even Keller as comps most likely push it that way.

Did Svech turn down $7.5 million for 8 years or was it $7.75 million?

It's also a bad idea, in general, to be too openly cutthroat in the NHL, with the potential risk of the league Hinkie-ing you out of a job if you shake the status quo too much. It's a very fine line that more aggressive clubs have to walk.

$7.5M for 8 years, but that was also before his recent down season. I expect that Carolina really tries to go for term with both Svech and Necas with no Hamilton to worry about.

I feel like that's a necessity to have any chance of keeping them plus all of Slavin, Pesce, Aho, and Teravainen past their current contracts.

I mean I started out this whole process disgusted, as usual. But it has become so outlandish with the people they have traded or let walk plus who they have decided to add, that it is the equivalent of moving the Titanic around the deck chairs. Almost breath-taking. These moves might be some kind of genius. But I think it is more likely to be a shit show. Too many points of failure exposed.

They must have REALLY seen something they didn't like in the playoffs these last couple years.

First off…kudos to you re. the disgusted comment, self-awareness is an amazing trait to have.

Second, to your point about seeing something in the playoffs…to me it’s the about the scoring drying up in conjunction with being pushed around. The adds have a bit of grit and potential snarl but certainly goal scoring has not been addressed.

I remain confused … but they always seem to pull off some weird, off the wall, productive trade when we least expect it.
