Trying to stay patient, but this looks like it's heading in a troubling direction. Cap space is available, but there's not much out there that they should be spending it on.
Yup.

While if we get Tarasenko and the price isn’t outrageous I’ll obviously get on board and root for it all, I’m not in the camp that wants him. There’s a reason he’s still around - contract and threat of injury that this time might be career ending. Those two reasons are plenty enough for me to wish we steer clear.

Yeah, because the teams traxe away their good players in august and september.

Buffalo may with Eichel. I know that ownership wants to send him out West, but none of the contending clubs out there have large enough packages to be that enticing for Buffalo. To me, Eichel would be the one move that'll make folks almost 100% forget about the departure list.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he starts the season with Buffalo. I don’t think teams would want to pull the trigger on trading for him without seeing him play a few games first.

I know there are a lot of question marks but lets find some big dick energy and trade for Laine. We have the cap after Douglas left

does 1st + Nino get it done? cbj flip him at tdl for another 1st

Laine - Aho - TT
Svech - Tro - Necas
Ritchie - Staal - Fast
Martinook - Lorentz - Rookie

I also sign Ritchie 2yrs 1m aav

I'm well aware. However, Waddell can't sign or trade for what is not available. The options are shrinking.

They could try and lob a gigantic package for Eichel. Something like Trocheck + Gardiner + Jarvis + Bokk + Rees + Cotton + 1st, potentially. Then run a center group of Eichel/Aho/Staal/Lorentz and terrorize the Metro.

I ****ing HATE the look of that defense compared to what we've rolled the past few years.

Also we really need another good (top 6) LW before that group will look threatening. We need Drury to be contending with Marty to get out of the press box, not with Nino for second-line minutes.

FWIW I listened to the full DW press conference yesterday and he mentioned Drury by name as a young guy they want to see if could make it with the big club.
Yeah it does seem like he has a spot to lose so my earlier presumptions that he’s going to get time to develop are wrong. We’ll see how that goes. I’m sure he can handle the job defensively, just wouldn’t mind him getting as much time as possible to develop the offense.

You can make that defense look better. Others have mentioned putting TDA with Slavin. While I think that could make sense during most of a game, I expect TDA would be swapped out for Bear to protect late leads, leaving Slavin-Bear and Skjei-Pesce or swapping RD.

Skjei-Bear may work better than Skjei-TDA; not sure as I haven't seen Bear play much, but I am not sure I want Skjei being the guy who has to protect when TDA pinches.
