GDT: Free Agent Frenzy--9am PST, 7/1/15

All offense, no defense. Kessel and Semin will fit right in. They should go after Sergei Kostitsyn while they're at it.

Remember the few minutes before the ping pong balls were bouncing and Kings fans were dreaming of a long shot of getting McDavid was happening. ...... Voynov was still the black eye.........Sekera and DL were talking.

Ha we hit some bumps in the road but:

1. We landed Milan MF Lucic for a non roster player.... This is a nasty skilled winger. Changes that top line..big spark expected. Gabby on the right side, room to operate.
2. We got rid of Stoll, guys were begging for this last year
3. We got rid of Richards thus far.....do a happy dance...ya a black eye, but blk eyes don't effect on ice performance and this makes us better next year by subtraction.
4. We can't live in the past with Williams.... He declined in a huge way last year..plus he is 34.
5. Brown moves to line 3. Fellows we have the depth to play a Brown quality player on line 3

Look at two comparable teams - Chicago and Boston

We lost Sekera ya, the cap sucks but:

Chicago just lost Saad and more to come
Boston lost Hamilton and Lucic

We are contenders with a deadly top 6, the best Dman in the world leading a young core that still has Muzzin, Martinez and possibly Voynov. We have a pit bull in Quick in net.

It's not all bad. We can still compete.

Chicago gets younger, faster and still serviceable players even though they lose players. Dean can learn something from them. Dano is a great young player. Anisimov is underrated. They got Panarin and Tikhonov. Chicago is an awesome team.

With Voynov coming back (at some point) Sekera wasn't really a good fit. Sutter wasn't going to run a Sekera/Voynov pairing. The 4.8 number from the Kings would have Sekera replacing Martinez, but paying 5.5 to Sekera over Voynovs 4.167 doesn't make a lot of sense. If you are going into the 5.5M range for Sekera there are better fits for the Kings D that are available.

Also despite the 10M of cap space the Kings are showing, to bring in another contract in the 5M range a player needs to be moved. So that player should be a significant upgrade/fit for the team.

I must admit that I don't follow Pittsburgh that closely but I never thought of them as a team who needs help scoring goals. In fact, I'd think it would be the opposite. Why did they feel they needed to add Phil Kessel? I just think that is odd.

And what have any of those players accomplished that Dean should follow in Chicago's footsteps?

Can people stop talking about Voynov??? The guy tore his damn achilles last year and he's suspended indefinitely. He's probably played his last game as a King. Move. On.

Let's talk about the package Dean gave up to get Sekera then.

Yeah, that would make sense why Futa was talking about him coming back this season.

The reality is, even if he does come back, the guy tore his achilles. It took Erik Karlsson a year and a half to get back to form after tearing his. Look at Kobe Bryant, he hasn't been the same. It's one of the worst injuries, along with tearing your ACL, for a professional athlete. The achilles tendon is the strongest ligament in your body, it's not supposed to tear, let alone "while playing tennis".

Even if Voynov comes back, it won't be this season. And IF *big IF* he does come back this season, he won't be himself for another while.
