Need to get on a rant here for a moment.
In 1998, the Toronto Maple Leafs stole the Edmonton Oilers starting goalie Curtis Joseph for 4 years and $22 million. Nearly a quarter century later the Oilers steal Jack Campbell from Toronto for 5 years and $25 million.
Granted, the star power factor is a little different but this is definitely Bettman economics at work and not in a fan friendly way. The Toronto and Edmonton markets are paying 2020s prices, teams have billion dollar valuations and yet clubs are artificially handcuffed to paying their stars late 1990s salaries.
The idea that Chris Boucher makes about the same money as Auston Matthews in the same organization is just crazy to me.
