Really? I don’t see it. The islanders gave him every opportunity and he never did.
Fits the profile of what we're looking for there. 6'3 200 pounds. Never know. Should be very cheap. These breakout guys can't be predicted sometimes, just have to take the shot.

Islanders also don't have access to our top 6. Ours is made for guys to breakout

If I was the any of our big 4 I would definitely be at least a little upset with myself for taking the absolute maximum (outside of Willie) because if they had all signed for a million less we would be in a much better place to compete for a championship.

A cup seems like the only reason to play, especially for a players legacy.

What are the Leafs' remaining depth needs?

- one RHD
- 4th line C
- bottom 6 RW

Anything else that's vacant?

Top 9 LW is the clear hole right now, and probably a 4th line center unless they think Gaudette is the player.

They have Anderson, Simmonds and now NAK as bottom line RWers.

Unless Holl moves, I don't see the need for a RHD either.

Top6/Top9 has not been good enough in the playoffs over the last 4 years. Period.

I expect upgrades either now and up until the deadline.

That’s true but what I’m saying is he’s just not an offensive guy in the NHL. If we really want a 6’3 break out guy, Dylan Strome is still available. I think he’s the guy we should make a play for. We can move Tavares to the wing.

Need to get on a rant here for a moment.

In 1998, the Toronto Maple Leafs stole the Edmonton Oilers starting goalie Curtis Joseph for 4 years and $22 million. Nearly a quarter century later the Oilers steal Jack Campbell from Toronto for 5 years and $25 million.

Granted, the star power factor is a little different but this is definitely Bettman economics at work and not in a fan friendly way. The Toronto and Edmonton markets are paying 2020s prices, teams have billion dollar valuations and yet clubs are artificially handcuffed to paying their stars late 1990s salaries.

The idea that Chris Boucher makes about the same money as Auston Matthews in the same organization is just crazy to me.

Yeah

Engvall-Kampf-X
X-X-Aubel

We can move from Kerfoot
We shouldnt trust Engvall or Kampf to bail us out in the playoffs or jump up into the top 6 if there are injuries.

We seen this movie for 4 years, depth is killing us.

Engvall-Kampf is a fine duo for just playing defense, ZAR would be welcome there.

This is the best I can think of right now:

If the Leafs finished up the roster like this and no one in the Atlantic makes any drastic moved they would be projected to finish 2nd in the Atlantic behind Boston and they'd play Tampa in the 1st round again.

Edit: forgot to factor in Boston's injuries. Leafs would finish 1st in the Atlantic and play a wildcard team which might be Boston.
