If we sign Perron, I think that either indicates we have another move with significant money or we are preparing to keep Shattenkirk. That's a short-term issue in keeping Shattenkirk this season, it means we lose out on a bigger signing. Signing Schwartz and Backes/UFA to big deals was all under the basic assumption that Shattenkirk was traded, and that might not happen now.

Of course, but one is $6 million and the other is under $4, so I don't think it's a direct either or. I think if Army isn't trading Shattenkirk, a $6 million player in addition to Schwartz is likely out of the question.

True, this entire off season has been fumbled. We don't know exactly how much of it is Army's fault and how much is the trade/FA market. I am actually ok with him stalling with Shattenkirk until he gets what is fair value. However, you have got to get Schwartzy signed before today so we have a little bit better of an idea of what kind of money we have to work with.

Yes and no. Army didn't adjust to no one else overpaying like Edmonton was going to. Just because someone offers you 70K for a 50K car, doesn't mean it's worth 70K, it just means they were willing to overpay.

I understand Edmonton has been crap for a decade but they do have McDavid now who is going to be a generational talent. I would think more guys would be willing to sign there now for that reason.

Again, it is Shattenkirk's choice and he does have that right but I also have the right to be pissed about it. He royally screwed us big time.

I don't hate Shattenkirk. Yeah some of this frustration does stem from him and his refusal to sign with certain teams. However, that is his right. He put the time in and he has a right to pursue whatever team he wants when his contract expires. I can't blame him for telling the truth when asked the question, "Would you likely re-sign in Edmonton?"
