Yeah, I'd be fine with that. Tomorrow will be very interesting.

Yea that's for sure. Shattenkirk likely traded and we find out whether we need a new captain or not.
If Sobotka returns, he can take Backes' spot on the shutdown line? Then whichever UFA takes Brouwer spot with Fabbri and Stastny? I'm just speculating.

I just hope we do something. I would cringe if Army strikes out and we have to rely on Jaskin and Rattie taking on bigger roles next year.

If we lose Backes and/or Brouwer, Army better sign or trade for a replacement. And not Sobotka.

So many possibilities my ****ing head is spinning. Are we at least safe from Army handing out a 6 or 7 year term? UFA scares the hell out of me every year. I see what these players are asking $ wise which is scary enough then I see they want 6 and 7 year term and I'm thinking, "Jesus please don't let that be us.."

Btw I recommend checking out the Okposo thread on the trade board. Some good insight from Isles fans and some lovely nicknames as well lol.

Armstrong has been talking with Backes a lot over the past couple of days, the interesting part is that players don't have to wait until UFA to know what other teams are offering. I wonder if Backes is the back-up plan at this point. He is pushing us to move a little closer to a deal he can get elsewhere and we're waiting on Okposo's decision. Where I think we're probably the favourites at this point.

After having a week to negotiate I would think there will be a bunch of signings released at 11am. I'm sure a lot of teams will pressure the players for a decision so they can move on to plan B if they don't get their first choice. It would be awesome to see the behind the scenes action going on.

Teams aren't allowed to make actual contract offers yet, so if that's true they're in violation of the CBA. I know, it wouldn't be the first time, just sayin'.

While you are correct, the talking period is largely pointless with financial talk. It happens, every team does it.

People wonder why Stamkos finally signed an offer that had been on the table for months? He seen the other offers on the table. It is what makes the Backes situation so interesting; he hasn't extended and there is no significant rumours concerning him.

It wouldn't be bad if it had been a 3 year deal... 5 years? Ouch.

For as well run as the Red Wings have been in the past, they give out some bizarre contracts.

Question about Nilsson: I know the Blues gave him a qualifying offer but I haven't heard if he's signed it. IF he has, are the Blues required to keep (or trade) him, or is there still an out for the team?

He hasn't signed his QO.

If he was to sign it, then the Blues have to honour the contract. They could trade him if they wanted/could find a taker. The could just dump him in the AHL if they brought in another backup.

Ultimately, the QO is just to retain his rights. I wouldn't be surprised if we sign someone else and Nilsson heads back to the KHL. At which point his rights are worthless, he'd be an UFA next summer.

This is what happens in a quiet UFA year.

Which is fine if they are talking $4m. ~$5.5m? :amazed:

He supposedly turned down 5.5

http://www.newsday.com/sports/columnists/arthur-staple/on-islanders-free-agency-minicamp-and-prospects-1.11973318

Frans Nielsen stillis Islanders property and there still seems to be a better chance than not that he will remain with the Isles. A report Monday indicated Nielsen had turned down an Islander contract offer worth $5.5 million per season. Sources had indicated in the past week that the two sides had moved closer on a deal, one that was likely to be six or seven years in length to keep the average annual value below that $5.5 million number and keep Nielsen in an Islander uniform for the rest of his NHL career.

Things change daily, even hourly, when it comes to the free-agent frenzy, so one side or the other could have altered their stance. But last I heard, $5.5 million per was not the right number and the sides were closer on a deal.

That's what I thought. Thank you, sir.

That would be interesting, because I don't believe we have had serious discussions with Perron over the past week.

I suppose with Ott leaving we need to fill our stupid penalties quota somehow...

It's stuff like that that really makes me worried about Backes extending today.
