I wont scoff at using the oven in smoking. I use it occasionally to finish a large piece if I had struggled with getting over the stall (I really try not to wrap the meat).

Smoking a tri-tip is nice. A good size one takes about the same time as ribs. Steak texture. I hadn’t ever had tri tip until I went to a butcher and saw it as an option.

Any other odd pieces that are good to smoke?

I smoked a chuck roast yesterday. It ain't brisket, but it's less expensive and is ready in about half the time.

I think there’s a misconception that anyone that waits out the initial cash grab misplayed their hand and is lucky to get anything. A good player like this had people interested the whole time. He waited out the market and took the best thing he could get, which is good money for a good team. At the end of the offseason people still have money to spend. It’s not the big dollars but 2 mill is good for Erod and he likely improves his value playing for the Av’s.

Teams always find a way to squeeze one more player. Except Vegas.

With that said, go for the oven if that's your thing, I would never criticize, but something about tending a wood fire for 12-18 hours is an art form, and I really like it.
What happens after hour 8 once you're finished the fifth of bourbon and you're too shit-faced to stand?
Where do you get yours? One of the best meals I’ve ever had was smoked dino ribs.

Makes sense they’d look to deal Bear with Coghlan and Chatfield coming in much cheaper. It’d be a shame if Bear regained his form and inevitably turned into the 2nd pair D he’s capable of being elsewhere though, can’t keep them all:

How does one get privy to the STM breakfasts?
I would bring this. Felt like some chicken this afternoon. Went to the offset vs. the egg. 275 for 3 hours. They got some eastern NC mop sauce every 30 minutes (vinegar based) before finishing with my go to sweet sauce. Three levels of flavor - the rub, the mop sauce, and the sweet glaze.

The thing is that the Canes don't have to deal him now with the Patches and Gardiner LTIR. It was probably a larger priority earlier this offseason when there were cap questions. They are probably going to wait and see how he performs during the season before either trading him or keeping him for the playoffs.

They don’t have to deal him, true. However, by dealing him they clear up their logjam at RD, clear cap and don’t need to expose Chatfield or Coghlan to waivers. I don’t think they trade him for the sake of trading him, it’d have to make sense.

I was looking forward to a potential CDH-Bear pairing. I suppose there’s still a chance for that.

And I'm not sure we were watching the same Bear. At best, in my opinion, he was adequate, but nothing special. I'd deal him in a heartbeat....for just about any return I could get.
Same. Bear does nothing for me as a player. I'd much rather have Chatfield playing on the third pairing than Bear. If you can get something for him at this point, I'd do it easy.
