I wonder if a Chychrun trade is dependent on a Zub extension?

Like, if we cannot extend Zub, or if he states he wants to test the free market, Dorion pulls the trigger to get Chychrun as a replacement?
I think a Zub extension is a mid season thing and partially dependent on the development of Brannstrom, Thomson and JBD

Some options for that enforcer kind of role could include Brett Ritchie, Zdeno Chara, Zac Rinaldo and Nathan Beaulieu.

Or maybe we could consider giving a PTO to Stuetzle's friend David Wolf.

Chara fought a lot last season. Here are his fights.
[snip]
Yeah, sorry, didn't articulate my thought very clearly there. He's an adept fighter but he's definitely lost a step. I view Beaulieu and Ritchie as guys who might still be able to play at a decent enough level to justify having them out on the ice. With Chara, I worry that he'd be more of a liability even in sheltered minutes. Love the man but he's not the player he used to be.

If the role he's brought in for is bottom pair enforcer Dman, I think he still has enough left in the tank for that.

Any interest in Girard from Colorado? Can play both sides

Sens should have interest, even if he's not a perfect fit. Top 4 D signed on a cheap 5M x 5YR contract.

But if there were a chance of Girard being moved this off-season it would have been done to re-sign Kadri.

I’d rather sign Zub to that deal, and we don’t have room for another small D in my opinion.

I’d rather roll with Bran and see what he can do, and eventually add Kleven.

I’m not all about size, but on D that is a need.

He would also make an excellent mentor for Sanderson and help players like Tkachuk and other physical players learn how they need to maintain their bodies in order to play that style of game over a long career. On top of that he would provide some additional high quality veteran leadership and offer a bit of nostalgia to the fans.

I firmly believe this. But the other way around.

We are not pushing for extension for Zub unless we know trade for Chychrun for sure not possible.

I think Dorion wants an elite top 3 to guide the rest. If not, I believe we will give Zub what he wants(should he want to stay--and I see no reason why not) and acquire another solid but not top end top 4.

Not sure Chara is any better at actual defense than Zaitsev anymore. It would just be a feel good story but I'm not so sure for him coming back to Ottawa is feel good, unless he just wants another shot at playoffs and another million in the bank.

Kurtis Gabriel is the PTO to have.
I wouldn't go that route. Giving a PTO to an enforcer type would be about ensuring that there is competition for Sabourin and ideally someone that is an upgrade over him. Gabriel has limited NHL experience, isn't much of a player even at the AHL level and losses the majority of the fights he has against legitimate heavyweights. Him and Sabourin are pretty comparable and Sabourin might actually be the superior player.

Brett Ritchie and Nathan Beaulieu on the other hand are certainly better players than Gabriel. They can provide some physicality, get into some scraps and take regular shifts.

Even an old guy like Zdeno Chara provides more intimidation and is still a better player than Gabriel. Or Zac Rinaldo who while also limited in skill, still has a lot more NHL experience.

Don't we have a few enforcers signed in Belleville? Why not take advantage of that and give those guys some games in Ottawa? Would also give them a bigger incentive to show what they can do in both cities, as well.

I don't see Chara playing for any team unless he is a full time player, I also don't see any team having him in their top 6.

Zdeno Chara is not signing a PTO and no NHL team is going to insult him with one. They'll either offer him a contract or not.
