Not only that but even if we're generous and say the cap goes up in '23-'24 by 5M, won't be enough for a Stutzle monster contract until we get Murray/Bobby/MDZ and our BFF Zaitsev off the books in '24-'25 (10M total). Team may elect to bridge both Sanderson and Stutzle but if one were to get a monster deal, it'll be Stutzle with 3 year of NHL games with very promising production under his belt, not green Sanderson.
The bridge contracts (or contract) will need to happen before we get to Sanderson's 2024-25 10.2 (c) contract. It took about 3 or 4 minutes to build a spreadsheet (did this a week or so ago), and then maybe a few seconds to run subsequent "what if" scenarios, but I don't think anyone looks at posts that contain the numbers.

Daly has said he believes the cap could raise "significantly" following the 2023-24 season. So this talk of bridge deals may be premature.
When did he say this? Recently? CBA & Bettman says only $1 to $2 m increases to the ceiling until 2025 and until the player escrow is paid off and the revenues hit a specific number. Maybe there's been something more recent that came out.

I’ve seen some preliminary estimates recently which would make me more optimistic on the cap gong up sooner whether that’s in two seasons or three seasons, I think it’s more likely than not two seasons rather than three," Daly said in an interview with Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman and Jeff Marek from European Media Day on Wednesday.

Daly said revenue projections for the 2022-23 season are "very solid" -- meaning the cap bump could come ahead of schedule.

Fact is the cap has been in the low 80s for a couple of years. Every team sits inside it, including the elite teams.
Yes, because the teams have to meet cap. Several teams made some pretty drastic moves this year to meet cap. We'll figure it out as you say, but that doesn't mean teams don't get into situations where measures need to be taken to meet cap. Running the numbers is informative. Situations can change as well of course.

Excellent. Thanks.

He did sign long term in Ottawa, so that says something, but this seems like a decent fall back option for him.

As a restricted FA he signed with Ottawa. Basically he gave Ottawa all of his team controlled years. His other option would have been to seek an offer sheet or hold out.

Obviously the $26 million was enough to deter holding out or forcing a trade and no one offered an offer sheet.

Yes, he signed a long term contract in Ottawa, that is correct.

Perhaps not to you. Sounded very in important to him. His family is excited to visit him etc.
If you read the article, he was actually pretty clear that a competitive team, the coaching staff and a tight group of players are what drew him to Florida. The rest was a welcome bonus. Mendes actually gave a bit of a leading question to get the response about the weather/beaches.

Sorry … by bonus do you mean it didn’t influence his decision at all?

No, I mean it did not appear to be a primary factor.

Oh … I would never argue that weather is the primary factor for all players deciding where they want to play.

I think he says the main factor was a playoff team [with decent chance to make noise and go deep.]

That’s a bit of lip service - players are trained to avoid truths like “the main reason I came here is for the money”.

Florida feels like a great spot for him. They offered him money …. He won’t have a lot of pressure, they have a good team, he can get a great tan, and his family is excited to visit. Sounds great to me.

I dunno, how often you call it Ottberia would seem to suggest otherwise

Don’t overthink the Ottberia thing. I love Ottawa … I ski, play hockey… I like our weather.

It’s a term used to acknowledge the general trend that non Canadian and Canadian athletes (all sports) generally prefer to play or train in the US. Weather, taxes, luxury goods, airport travel etc.

Furthermore .. within Canada we often draw the short stick vs TOR, MTL, beautiful Vancouver, and the richest owner in the league in Winnipeg… even little things like it generally takes two fights to get here from anywhere.

We’re like the Milwaukee Brewers of baseball … or something like that. Most baseball players dream of playing in Milwaukee … some so.

Colin White is a super chipper positive guy. He said everything everywhere was amazing. He said he likes sunny weather, he probably likes snow too. Most hockey players do

He is … and he’s smart enough to not to burn any bridges. High road all the way.

Weather and taxes, sure. Luxury goods? That's a new one. Maybe if this was the 80s and people were still driving to Plattsburgh for cross border shopping excursions, but aside from certain flavours of junk food I honestly can't think of a single US consumer product that you can't also buy in Canada. And even if there was, online shopping pretty much makes that a moot point.

Most of these guys don’t wear clothes they buy in Ottawa. The fine dining/club scene is pretty soft here. It’s hard to buy a Ten year old
Bottle of decent wine at an Ottawa restaurant. Most people who have millions of dollars don’t send their kids to public school. There are no gated communities … Stitsville and Westboro aren’t the type of communities multimillionaires lock into … Our golf course and country scene is limited… you can’t fly anywhere direct out of Ottawa … stuff like that.

Check out how Hank Lundqvist rolled in NYC vs someone living in a 2800 square foot home in Stitsville.

It’s a different type of living that some Uber rich are attracted too.

There are some spectacular wine lists available at Ottawa better restaurants, no idea where that comes from. The Hunt Club and Royal Ottawa are both excellent private golf clubs. There are a couple of community’s within 15 minutes of CTC that rival any of the places around the Pennsylvania Pillbox areas or DC. They aren’t Gated because they don’t need to be. Flights out of Ottawa suck and high end night clubs are non existent. If you want to compare to NYC then almost every NHL city comes up short on your criteria.

Of course there are options for all those things in Ottawa - there are more in almost every other NHL city in the league.

No idea why everyone takes this stuff so personal. Even amateur athletes move to the US to train.

The best things about Ottawa aren’t the type of things someone who has $50 million in the bank and an American wife is looking for.
