Some of these contracts look like dogshit but people will have to come around to the idea that this is what the going rate will be going forward... again, the cap is jumping 4 million, possibly another 4 million the next... you didn't think salaries would stay flat with a cap increase right? I said a while back... all these budding stars that are signed long term to 7/8 million a year deals will be absolute steals when the cap jumps to +90 million. It'll be like Crosby making 8.7Mil all these years or when MacKinnon was only making 6.3Mil a year. Every star player will be making +10 million a year. The cap is just beginning to jump and we already see it. Matthews is already making +13 million... Nylander, Pettersson, etc are making 11 million. When the cap jumps the superstars will be making 15 million a year, the lower tiers will be making 10 routinely

We're already seeing the issues with the way Drury is handling Goodrow and Trouba. Two well respected veterans with a letter on their jersey and he has already kicked one to the curb and is working to do the same with another. It looks like nobody wants to sign here. Anyway that can't get a full NMC has to be worrying that the same will happen to them as they get older if their play falls off.

So you're sayin we wont be giving out contracts that hamstring us from the moment they are signed and Im supposed to think this is a bad strategy? 15 years of doing exactly what you described is enough of a sample size to say it aint working for us, no?

Maybe this is the right way to do things?

lots of deals are out of control. some aren't.

Chychrun trade, for example - these mid level deals often require 2nds and 3rds that we don't have because we throw them away on rentals every deadline.

The teams that win improve on the margins come deadline, not rebuild the top f***ing line. 1RW is not a hole you fill in march.
The prize in the Chychrun deal for Ottawa was Jensen, not the pick. You're focusing on the dime instead of the dollar.

Drury and Trouba will hold a joint press conference at 4 pm to announce that they're reconciled their differences. Trouba will remain with the team, forfeit the captaincy to Rempe and promise to play better. Drury will promise not to trade him and send a letter of recommendation to the Guggenheim on Trouba's behalf.

Nothing on Sean Walker, who was very sought after at the deadline, is interesting. Tarasenko also makes a ton of sense, because the rangers are clearly looking at short term deals, i.e. Drouin
