which of the known free agent contracts would you have supported McPhee matching and/or adding a year to?

Weiss, Roy, MacArthur, Briere, whatever Grabovski and Lydman get, Galiardi and Setoguchi trades, Khudobin/Bachmann/Greiss instead of our 2.5 million dollar benchwarmer. Possibly some others that could work in some ways.

But I suppose if we do anything that precludes Brooks Richards being our 2C and John Erskine being our 2LD we may end up too much like the Flyers and people might point and laugh.

Dear Lord did he just compare Laich to Richards and Backes? My god has he lost his mind!

laich cannot hold richards' jock, in just about every facet of the game.

He didn't say he could, just that he didn't "see a difference in ability".

How this man has failed to win anything with such keen insight is a mystery for minds far greater than ours.

:handclap: excellent post! Right away the Flyers/Holmgren excuse gets thrown around when you say you want to make moves to improve the team.

@SkyKerstein #Caps GMGM on what he's evaluating with Wilson in camp "I don't know if that we're evaluating him as much on the ice as we are off the ice"

anybody care to wade in the pool on that comment?

That one struck me as odd, too. Do they see potential off-ice issues with Wilson?

@KCarrera McPhee said "we don't see any real difference in terms of ability to play" between Laich and Fisher (NSH), Richards (LA) or Backes (STL).

The best part is he isn't even right in a literal sense, since Laich's ability to play is certainly in question coming into this season.

Edit: And by "Laich" I mean "Super 2C of Awesome"

You guys got a good one in David Leggio.

I watched him play for ECHL/Florida a bunch, and while I'm no expert, he was pretty good there. Although my team still beat him in the playoffs. Of course, we had James Reimer in net.

Probably just means they are looking for the maturity that is needed in any player playing succesfully in the nhl. I think he has it and will play at least 40 games next season.

I almost said i'm really looking forward to it but I guess that would be a controversial statement on this board.

Really hoping for a Grabovski signing.

My first thought was off-ice conditioning/workouts.

Re:Laich as a 2nd line center. Not fan of that. Laich's not a great passer and Brouwer isn't either.

I read that as Wilson may need to learn what it means to be a professional a bit more with respect to off ice preparation. I bet they aren't thrilled with the kind of shape he came into dev cap in and want him to really step his training level up and come into real camp in much better shape.

World class agitator still that McPhee. Bra-****ing-vo.

That was kind of my reaction to reading his comments. I can't help but admire his defiance, despite how deluded it is.

I took it to mean they were already sold on his play. I doubt he would have made the comment if that's what it meant. Admittedly based on following his tweeter, I'm extremely encouraged by what I've seen of Wilson's "character." He seems like a pretty smart kid who's likely to have the right attitude towards self-development and so on.

Roy, the trade for Sekera, the trade for Tallinder, arguably Ribeiro, being in on Grabovski, going after Lydman.

Hah. Brooks as 2C. I called it. Funny we have tried that before without much success. And George doesn't see it. He fails to acknowledge to himself the roster is the issue. Until he does this will be the status quo year in and year out.

Why are we so concerned about contract? Roy and Ribs both can play. And have proven it over the years. If they get overpaid so be it. Not that either have a ridiculous contract IMO.
