Put that wallet down right goddamn now

Huge yes too Luke Schenn. While we're at it get Lauzon and Sherwood from Vancouver.

Forget scoring, lets' just hit our opponents into oblivion
Sherwood isn't like the others though and would actually be excellent in our system and be a great boost to bottom 6, and even be useful in the top 6 giving more space for Timmy to work with for example.

I think the interest in Schenn was probably genuine but prior to us acquiring Jensen.

Given Matinpalo's emergence, don't see a big need to acquire an expensive bottom pairing RD.

I'd add more depth in the offseason but he and JBD should be able to adequately handle #6 duties for next season, assuming Yak needs more time.

If they can upgrade on Forsberg at a cheaper price, that would be great, but I don't see a need to upgrade in goal or defence at this time especially if it is going to cost us too much. I'm also completely against trading Norris, he is a very good two way centre who was relied on for faceoffs all over the ice, even passing Giroux for key faceoffs which is so important in hockey these days. He is second to Tkachuk in soring goals, he has proven before he has a ton of skill, he is great defensively including on the PK, he can play in all situations & is trusted by the coaching staff & he can score goals. Why would we trade such a good player for some soft player that cannot be depended on in the playoffs?

Where they do need to upgrade is on the 4th line, they need to find guys who are either tougher, bigger or more productive & if they can find all that in one player that is affordable that would be great. I would like to see them pursue Lawson Crouse LW leading up to the trade deadline, he would certainly improve this team's confidence & a number of them would play much bigger with him on this roster. I'd also go after Nick Bjugstad C/RW if they can afford it.

Listening to 32 thoughts and while talking about Schenn, mentioned Ottawa inquired about him last year.

Potential target this year ?
They were pretty deep in talks on a Norris/Schenn swap last season.

Makes some sense. Schenn has a shorter contract and is only owed 14.8M over the next 3 seasons, which is pretty nice. The Senators are going to be stretched extremely thin as the cap blasts past 100M USD.

Schenn is also much more durable and he's won a Cup which is something Staios clearly prioritized last off-season. His full-NTC is likely a major stumbling block.

Norris for Schenn would help us with the cap and term, but Schenn isn't as good as Norris on the dot, PK, and will be declining. I'd be open to acquiring him but feel like we should get another piece in return.

Deal around Norris and Zub for Schenn and Parayko

In his best year, Sherwood got 27 points in 68 games which ironically is the same number of points that Amadio got while he was in VGK. He doesn’t seem like a top six player. I can see the idea that he might be a better option than some of current bottom six players, but it seems unlikely he would fill our current need for a big (larger) boost in scoring.

I think the reason they are attempting a Norris trade in season is to try and improve the roster to not only increase the chances of making the playoffs, but also to do some damage.

They don't have the cap in season to add anybody. The cap situation is a mess. They are almost entirely locked out from making any improvements or additions to the roster. That is why I think we will see Norris moved to acquire 2-3 upgrades throughout the lineup at the expense of downgrading our 2C from Norris to Pinto.

As far as Norris long-term, it's not just about the cap ceiling. It's been highly publicized that the weak Canadian dollar and rising cap is going to be difficult for Canadian teams whose gate income is in Canadian dollars. They might not like the idea of having a 9.5M USD forward with multiple shoulder injuries under his belt. It's not as simple as saying he will just go on LTIR, because there are real dollars involved, even if insurance covers part of it. We don't know for sure that the shoulder wasn't considered a pre-existing condition when he signed, or what level his contract is insured to.

They have apparently been trying to move Norris pretty much since Dorion left. It's doubtful he is an easy player to trade and get value back, otherwise he may have been moved by now. So that points to them really not liking something about keeping Norris.
Is Garrioche your source here?
